On this day in 1960, "Ben-Hur" directed by William Wyler and starring Charlton Heston, won a record 11 Academy Awards. You can read more here.

It starred
Charlton Heston, Stephen Boyd, and a sterling cast. Among the awards, the
film won for Best Picture, Best
Director (Wyler), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Heston), Best Actor in a
Supporting Role (Hugh Griffith), and Best Cinematography
(Robert Surtees)....In 2004,
the National Film Preservation Board selected Ben-Hur for preservation
by the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for being
"culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
