9 LONG ISLAND BEACHES ORDERED CLOSED AFTER RECENT DOWNPOURS

The beaches are closed for the day, but will likely reopen tomorrow, according to the Westchester County Health Department.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Health officials have closed several Sound Shore beaches after the recent heavy rains in the area.

The Westchester County Health Department has closed the beaches preemptively for Wednesday because of 0.73 inches of rainfall over the last 24 hours.

Bandied about on local social media: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani made headlines again, claiming that he was actively discussing the possibility of arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to the city for a routine UN trip. This sounded absurd because it is—he has no authority here. None. It’s also a reminder that Mamdani should remember he’s just a mayor, not a head of state or legal authority. So, take it down a notch, little man.

SEVERAL MAJOR ROADWAYS REMAIN CLOSED AFTER POWERFUL STORMS SWEEP HUDSON VALLEY

Among the issues--- Meanwhile, a sinkhole has forced lane closures on Interstate 684 northbound north of Exit 6A, where the left and center lanes are blocked. In Ossining, Route 9A has reopened in both directions at Ryder Road after earlier flooding and a downed tree shut down the roadway.

A CROTON TORNADO--FROM THE MAILBOX

As many of you are aware, a tornado watch was in effect till 9 pm last night.  This was posted across multiple Croton sites.  Thankfully, it did not occur.

But a reader noted that there was a confirmed tornado in Rye Book yesterday (read more at Matthew Cappucci on X: "A confirmed tornado caused damage in Rye Brook, New York this afternoon as a rotating thunderstorm propagated east-northeast along a spin-rich warm front. Radar clearly confirms tornado. NWS Upton will be surveying to rate the tornado damage. https://t.co/a289qnF0Dc" / X

She additionally wondered if there have ever been any reported tornados here.

JULY 2026, DJ DANIEL, AN UPDATE

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR DJ DANIEL; Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel's cancer is currently stabilized, and doctors have confirmed that all metastatic lesions in his brain are inactive. Despite a round of online death rumors that circulated in early 2026, his father, Theodis Daniel, and local media confirmed that the 14-year-old Texas teen is alive and continues to actively fight his condition. FINDING IN THE COMPLAINT OF SAM WATKINS JR. AGAINST ALI R. JAFFERY

The Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee met via Zoom on July 15, 2026 to hear the complaint of incumbent Sam Watkins, Jr. (Voice of Croton) against Ali R. Jaffery (Democratic and Working Families Parties), candidates for Justice in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson. Mr. Watkins did not attend the Hearing and was represented by Dan Callaway, Esq. and Gary Eisinger. Mr. Jaffery attended the Hearing.

COMPLAINT: Mr. Watkins complained that a post on Mr. Jaffery's candidate website misled voters by incorrectly stating that Mr. Watkins was retiring, giving the voting public the impression that there is no opposition to Mr. Jaffery’s candidacy. The post, which was announcing the Working Families Party’s April 2026 endorsement, read as follows: “The WFP also expressed gratitude to retiring Village Justice Sam Watkins for his years of service…”[boldface added]. The incorrect post was on Mr. Jaffery’s website from April 16 until June 28. He corrected it once he was made aware of the error. Mr. Jaffery’s website also included the language “Read the full story in River Journal Online,” although the River Journal article had not included the word “retiring.”

FINDING: UNFAIR CAMPAIGN PRACTICE
The Committee found that including the word “retiring” when referring to Mr. Watkins, when he clearly was not retiring, misled the public. Also, the Working Families Party endorsement, which was published in The Croton Chronicle on April 14 and in the River Journal on April 16, did not say anything about Mr. Watkins retiring. However, the Committee recognizes and appreciates that Mr. Jaffery quickly corrected the website on June 28 once he became aware of the error.

NEWS 10 ABC----ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– An Albany man has been sentenced to prison for starting at fire at the Samual S. Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albany. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 28-year-old Marcasey Ventour will spend five years in prison.

According to officials, Ventour was accused of starting a fire in a restricted part of the facility. He then pleaded guilty to arson charges, admitting to starting the fire and causing nearly $80,000 in damages.

“Mr. Ventour showed reckless disregard for both staff and the veterans receiving care when he started this fire, and now will be held accountable,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III said. MORE AT Man gets prison time for starting fire at Albany VA

She was born in Ossining, NY, on January 29, 1925, to George Miller and Gladys Baker Miller of Croton-on-Hudson, NY. She was their only child and grew up surrounded by her many relatives.

She graduated from Croton-Harmon High School in 1943 and entered Fairfax Hall, at that time a finishing school in Waynesboro, VA. After school, she worked at a bank in Croton-on-Hudson. She and Everett M. Ashworth of Harmon, NY, wed on August 9, 1947, and they were married for 65 years.
