PART 3, EVERYTHING CROTON COMMEMORATES THE FIRST WORLD WAR CENTENARY

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

In August 2014 the world will mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, also known as THE GREAT WAR....and like so many big cities and small towns in America, Croton-on-Hudson was there. You can read more about that--and see a fabulous shot of Croton WWI veterans too--by clicking on the link http://www.everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2014/03/first-world-war-centenary-why-its.html

EverythingCroton is pleased to join the commemoration with a series of postings from now until August 2014 featuring village residents who answered the call, ephemera from private collections, interesting links, and more from the archives of THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

Along the way, we'll also have coverage of the European theater as well as seldom seen photos and articles from all sides of the equation. Here's Part 3, CLICK ON THE PHOTOS BELOW, FEATURING CROTON RESIDENTS, as well as scans of related ephemera from my private collection.

1912: THE LOCOMOBILE COMPANY OF AMERICA & CORNELIA COTTON GALLERY TOO

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

One of our best finds from Croton's own Cornelia Cotton Gallery (111 Grand St., 271-6802), a sort of mini-catalog featuring 1912 offerings from The Locomobile Company of America. For those who don't know, The Locomobile Company of America was an automobile manufacturer founded in 1899. For the first two years it was located in Massachusetts, but production was transferred to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where it remained until the company's demise in 1929. Read more about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locomobile_Company_of_America

And remember: for ephemera, art, maps and such, Cornelia Cotton Gallery. Click on the select scans below. Enjoy.  P.S. Looking for info on Cornelia's book, Stepping Stones? Go here  http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2012/12/martin-smolin-on-cornelia-cottons-book.html

THANK YOU WASHINGTON ENGINE CO. #2 & CROTON'S EMS--FROM CUB SCOUT PACK 28

CLICK ON THE PHOTO FROM JENNIFER KOONEY
Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Washington Engine Cub Scout Thank You

Tiger Dens 1 and 4 of Croton-on-Hudson Cub Scout Pack 28 would like to thank the volunteer members of our Washington Engine Co. #2 and our Croton-on-Hudson EMS volunteers for a very informative evening together.  Washington Engine opened its doors to approximately 20 first grade Tigers, as well as their siblings and parents, and provided an interactive discussion about how they help people in our community.  They discussed the rigorous training requirements, the flexibility they need to be on call, the types of calls they go on and what it feels like to help other people.

After the presentation, the Scouts were provided with a tour of the firehouse as well as an introduction to the special equipment our volunteers utilize.  The Scouts were able to enter an ambulance and take turns on the stretcher, sit in the fire trucks and experience the volume of the sirens.  They also learned about some of the special medical equipment that is utilized by our EMS volunteers.  A special treat was when two of the Washington Engine volunteers suited up in full gear and showed the Scouts the importance of each piece they wear, and most importantly, not to be afraid of the volunteers in uniform…if you see them, they are there to help you!

Thank you Washington Engine Co. #2 and Croton-on-Hudson EMS!  Not only for our fabulous evening together, but for all you do to keep us safe in our Croton community!

Warmly,
Tiger Den 1 and Tiger Den 4
Croton-on-Hudson Cub Scout Pack 28
