UPPER VILLAGE WALKING TOUR

Village Historian Marc Cheshire will be leading a walking tour of the Upper Village on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m. Learn about the history of buildings and streets in the heart of the village. Discover little treasures hiding in plain sight and lament what no longer exists—like the Quaker Meeting House and Cemetery once located on Grand Street.

The walking tour is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours; the route is 1.3 miles and includes stairs. The tours are free and open to village and non-village residents but advance registration is required. Sign up on the village website: https://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/.../2026-croton...

Meet in front of the Municipal Building at 1 Van Wyck Street.

FROM THE ST. AUGUSTINE 6/28 BULLETIN--EAGLE PARK, GEORGE WASHINGTON, AND MORE

We Hold These Truths… On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond. We celebrate the bravery of those who fought for our inalienable rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

From the annals of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Mary’s of the Springs in Ohio, who owned this property known as Eagle Park before we acquired it, we have the following: Eagle Park, too, has a historical note of great interest. Legend again lends enchantment when it recalls to mind the days of long ago, when General Washington selected the grounds of Eagle Park, at the point of the widest span of the Hudson River, as the camping ground for his soldiers. It is said that many times Washington returned to this beautiful spot because he considered it ideal as a resting place for his men.”

MORE--BREAKING--NY POST - SUPREME COURT RULES TRUMP CAN TURN BACK ASYLUM SEEKERS AT US BORDER IN MAJOR IMMIGRATION WIN

Immigration advocates had claimed that aliens should be considered to “arrive” in the US once they reached the border, regardless of whether they set foot on American soil.

WASHINGTON —The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Trump administration can turn away migrants who show up at the US-Mexico border before they apply for asylum, in a victory for the White House’s immigration crackdown that prompted a tense exchange between two justices.  MORE AT Supreme Court rules Trump can turn back asylum seekers at US border in major immigration win

BREAKING - SUPREME COURT DELIVERS MASSIVE VICTORY FOR TRUMP'S IMMIGRATION AGENDA

The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday in favor of the Trump administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants from Syria and Haiti.

In a six to three decision, the justices found that the TPS statute bars judicial review of non-constitutional claims and that the plaintiffs equal protection challenge to the White House’s decision is unlikely to succeed on its merits. NY WANTS TO REFORM MATH INSTRUCTION, EXPERTS DISAGREE ON HOW

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses or worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

NY Wants to Reform Math Instruction. Experts Disagree on How.

They buried the lede— until we fix teachers colleges, the focus won’t be on students:

“We’re not an evidence-based profession traditionally, we’re more of an ideology-based, philosophy-based profession, and that works to some degree, but it’s not working for most of our kids,” Gaffney said. “So we need to move away from that towards the evidence.”

YADA YADA YADA "COME-UPPANCE COMES FOR ANTIFA"---MANY THANKS TO RED PAPYRUS FOR THE LINK

This is trending mightily on many village and local pages. We'll skip the rest of the chatter--and go straight to the link for the NOT THE BEE ARTICLE---The only "folks" who are unhappy about the sentences handed down seem to be largely bot-driven, anonymous and/or fake accounts:

On July 4, 2025, this Antifa cell in Texas attacked an ICE facility with blasters.  Nine of them were promptly tracked down and arrested.

In March 2026, eight were found guilty by a jury of their peers.  Those eight have now been slapped with lengthy prison sentences.

U.S. District Judge Mark T. Pittman sentenced ringleader Benjamin Hanil Song to 100 years in prison. Song was convicted of the most serious offenses in the case, including attempted murder and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Prosecutors proved at trial that he shot Alvarado Police Lt. Thomas Gross in the neck during the Fourth of July attack last year.

Again, the media has told me for years that these "antifascists" are the good guys, or that they are a myth, or that their terror cells are just an idea. MORE AT First Batch Of "Just An Idea" Gets Combined 450 Years In Federal Prison For July 4th Terror Attack | Not the Bee

CROTON LIONS CLUB AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses or worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

CROTON LIONS CLUB AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

The Croton Lions Club is pleased to announce the recipients of three scholarship awards this year. The graduating Croton Harmon High School seniors are Vincent Flynn, Maya Sebestyan, and Max Newman.

Vincent will continue his studies at SUNY Buffalo, Maya is headed to Michigan and Max will be attending Boston University. They each spoke about their community service projects and future plans before receiving their awards. Community service is a required element to be considered for this award.

The scholarships this year were named for Lions, Gerry Klein, Vic Conte, and Brian Fitzpatrick as a friend of the Lions.

The students each received a check for $5,000 dollars to aid them in continuing their education. The Lions Club was able to increase the amount of scholarships from $3,000 to $5,000 this year through fundraising efforts and the generosity of the village residents.

Since 1939 when the Croton Lions Club was founded, over $500,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving students. The Lions are the largest service organization in the world with over 1.4 million members who work to improve their communities through service. Their motto is “We Serve” and the Croton Lions are happy to serve the village of Croton on Hudson.

Lions president, Bob Anderson closed the dinner with some thoughts for the students to carry forward. He asked them to remember the people who helped them and to pay it forward. He suggested they make service to others a part of their growth as a person. Any small gesture of kindness and caring towards others is very rewarding and finding a group or organization that is important to you and donating some time.

He also quoted Aaron Sorkin, “Don’t ever forget you are a citizen of this world, and there are things you can do to lift the human spirit – things that are easy, things that are free, things that you can do every day: Civility, Respect, Kindness, Character.”

The scholarship award dinner was held from 6-8 p.m., June 17, 2026, at Franco Martini Restaurant, 2025Albany Post rd., Croton, NY. It was attended by Lions, students, family, friends and guidance counselors of the students and a good time was had by all.

More information about the Lions can be found at crotonlions.org, Facebook and Instagram.

SARCONE ETAL IN THE NEWS----DOJ REVEALS RESULTS OF "SIGNIFICANT" FRAUD INVESTIGATION IN CAPITAL REGION

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses or worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

DOJ reveals results of ‘significant’ fraud investigation in Capital Region

EXCERPTED According to the DOJ, the suspects fraudulently obtained over $4 million in Medicaid reimbursements from January 2020 to March 2025. They were charged with superseding indictments of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and healthcare fraud, as well as conspiracy to pay healthcare kickbacks.

48-year-old Muhammad Zishan of Albany County, 34-year-old Madiha Javed of Rensselaer County and 20-year-old Ghazali Shaikh of Warren County were also accused of unlawfully managing a taxi company called Latham Taxi Inc. as a Medicaid transportation provider. The three allegedly paid Medicaid recipients in cash, controlled substances and other items to use their service.

The trio fraudulently obtained around $660,000 in Medicaid reimbursements from January 2020 to February 2025, officials said. Charges included conspiracy to commit wire fraud and healthcare fraud, conspiracy to pay healthcare kickbacks, conspiracy to falsify trip data and more.

“These taxi providers preyed not only upon vulnerable New Yorkers but on the American taxypayers, abusing a system intended to ensure beneficiaries are able to have safe, reliable transportation to and from healthcare appointments,” Sarcone said.
