UPDATE ON QUAKER BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION VIA THE VILLAGE WEBSITE

Westchester County has received the approvals needed, and C.A.C. Industries, the contractor for the Quaker Bridge project, will start construction on Monday, July 6. Initial construction will be a five-day, eight-hour schedule. Based on this schedule, substantial completion and bridge opening is currently targeted for May 7, 2027. The contractor will work through the winter to meet that date. DPW is working with the contractor to see if the work can be accelerated. The festival featured performances by Jesse Welles, Margo Price, Warren Haynes, Grahame Lesh & Daniel Donato, Cimafunk, Chaparelle, Snacktime, Toshi Reagon, Tom Chapin, Leah Song, Lizzie No, and many more. FROM THE MAILBOX: DUMMY LIGHT FOURTH OF JULY--FROM THE MAILBOX AND INDIAN POINT ISSUES

A reader who left Croton many years ago has been taken aback by some of the changes here. We won't get into some of her commentary--at least not for the moment--but will address her question: "where's the planting bed that was in front of the dummy light?

Response: Sadly the "planting bed" had been struck BY TRAFFIC one time too many and was removed in 2022. SEE EverythingCroton: WORK AT THE DUMMY LIGHT

The light hasn't been hit since...to our knowledge.

A reader asks if there is any mobilization effort to stop INDIAN POINT from re-opening.

Response: There are a number of local organizations that would oppose a re-opening and a google search will easily find them.

Similarly there are also a number of entities who would welcome a re-start and/or re-use of the site. A google search will also find those.

Some groups would like to see the site re-used for "affordable housing"---others would like to see it re-used as for "AI purposes" and/or BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE.

The fact is, however, that any RE-USE AND/OR RESTART of Indian Point would be costly. With respect to a "re-start", Holtec President Kelly Trice has said, “The answer is yes” to restarting Indian Point, but only with state and federal backing. The estimated cost to revive operations is about $10 billion (POWER Magazine)

Restarting Indian Point would require unanimous consent from the Village of Buchanan, the Town of Cortlandt, Westchester County, New York State, and the Hendrick Hudson School District. Let it suffice to say that none of this is happening "tomorrow"......if ever. But you should do your own homework.

Closer to home there is considerable opposition to any more BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE in Croton--at least on certain social media pages---but until the village receives the consultant's report.......

Authorities seize 21 pounds of meth, multiple ghost guns in Johnson City

On June 4th, authorities from multiple agencies executed several search warrants, including at a "warehouse-style" building in Johnson City, where they allegedly found a large quantity of drugs and illegal weapons.

..........This is absolutely disturbing for a small community – a village – to have this level of activity going on here, and so brazenly,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III. ” That’s why we’re grateful to be partnering up and bringing our federal power here.”
