WHOLE FOODS IN THE NEWS: CEO CONDEMNS SOCIALISM AS "TRICKLE-UP POVERTY"

Whole Foods CEO condemns socialism as ‘trickle-up poverty--Whole Foods CEO John Mackey urged his fellow corporate leaders to join him in beating back the rising tide of socialism — an ideology he fears will plunge the world into poverty. In a recent interview with the conservative American Enterprise Institute, Mackey said business bosses need to more aggressively push back against progressives’ increasingly popular critiques of capitalism, a system he called “the greatest thing that humanity’s ever created.”

Asked whether the business world’s culture needs to change, the grocery tycoon replied, “It needs to evolve. Otherwise the socialists are going to take over, that’s how I see it. And that’s the path of poverty.”  MORE AT https://nypost.com/2020/11/30/whole-foods-ceo-john-mackey-calls-socialism-trickle-up-poverty/

LOCAL ROTARY CLUBS CONTRIBUTE TO WORLDWIDE POLIO ERADICATION: CROTON, TARRYTOWN, PEEKSKILL ROTARY

Local Rotary Clubs Contribute to the Worldwide Eradication of Polio--RIVER JOURNAL, ROB ABBOT

When thinking about the Rotary Clubs in our communities, what mostly comes to mind is the local service work: food pantries; scholarships; support for youth sports and scouting; community beautification, etc. The signature events of local clubs occupy an important place on the annual calendar of the communities they serve: the Peekskill Rotary Horse Show (virtual in 2020); the Croton Rotary Car Show (a parade this year); Tarrytown Rotary’s Ducky Derby (live streamed in 2020).

But Rotary has another, international dimension that has been in the news this fall. Rotary International, supported by some 35,000 clubs around the globe, promotes peace, fights disease, provides clean water, and supports economic development for communities in poor countries. And in 2020, disease prevention efforts supported by Rotary International marked a milestone in the eradication of polio, also known as infantile paralysis, a viral infection that led to the death or disability of thousands of Americans until a vaccine was developed in the 1950s. NYSDEC RELEASES DRAFT STATEWIDE DEER MANAGEMENT PLAN, PUBLIC COMMENT TILL 12/28

Plan Would Help Guide Current and Future State Deer Management Using Science and Public Input -- Public Comments Accepted until Dec. 28

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced the release of a draft Deer Management Plan for New York State for public review and comment. The plan builds upon the progress made by DEC's first deer management plan, released in 2011, and will guide DEC's deer management actions to balance natural resource protection, public safety, and recreational and economic interests for the next 10 years. The draft plan is available on DEC's website and public comments will be accepted through Dec. 28, 2020.

"With this draft management plan, DEC is taking innovative steps to improve deer management for the benefit of deer, deer habitat, and New Yorkers," Commissioner Seggos said. "We are seeking new ways to address overabundant deer in urban and suburban areas, provide relief to farmers and forest owners experiencing deer damage, protect New York's deer from the potential devastation of Chronic Wasting Disease, and enhance our great deer hunting traditions."

The draft plan details a new method for setting deer population objectives that integrates an assessment of deer impacts on forests with public preferences for deer population changes. It emphasizes new and adaptive approaches for harvesting antlerless deer by recommending strategic hunting season and tag changes in rural landscapes where additional harvest is needed and developing new opportunities for community-based deer management in suburban and urban landscapes.   GO TO https://www.dec.ny.gov/press/121863.html

Two commissioners (as they’re titled) voted to cut the Portland Police Department’s budget by $18 million, or 8 percent, Thursday. Ryan provided the third vote against.
