FOR THE CHRISTMAS BUCKET LIST & YOUR FILM LIBRARY: AN AMERICAN CHRISTMAS CAROL

And now here's one for the Christmas bucket list...Click on the photos and links.

Add this made-for-TV DVD to your Christmas film archives....the 1979 production of AN AMERICAN CHRISTMAS CAROL.

Yes...it is schmaltzy....and sentimental...but so well done.

Directed by Eric Till and based on Charles Dickens' 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, it stars Henry Winkler--yes Fonzie--as Bernard Slade, a depression-era Scrooge.  He is really quite effective in part.

The plot is simple enough---in Depression-era Concord, New Hampshire, a miserly businessman named Benedict Slade receives a long-overdue attitude adjustment one Christmas Eve when he is visited by three ghostly figures who resemble three of the people whose possessions Slade had seized to collect on unpaid loans.

Read more about it here.  p.s. It was released on Blu-ray in December 2012.

It's also available on Amazon and a must-add to your Christmas movie library.

FRANK SINATRA: NEW FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EFSP

NEW FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EFSP:

Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) was an American singer, actor and producer who was one of the most popular and influential musical artists of the 20th century. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 150 million records worldwide.

The idol of the bobby soxers Francis Albert Sinatra was born to Italian immigrants in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1915.

Sinatra spent much time at his parents' tavern in Hoboken, working on his homework and occasionally singing a song on top of the player piano for spare change. While he never learned how to read music, Sinatra had an impressive understanding of it, and he worked very hard from a young age to improve his abilities in all aspects of music.  READ AND SEE SOME FAB VINTAGE POSTCARDS HERE.

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK--MUSK, BLOOMBERG BUSINESS WEEK, AND THAT $750 MILLION BUFFALO GIGAFACTORY 2 SOLAR PANEL FACTORY

Did Elon Musk Forget About Buffalo?  After $750 million in subsidies and years of delays, critics say the Tesla CEO hasn’t done enough for the Gigafactory 2 solar panel factory.

Just south of downtown Buffalo, near abandoned factories and crumbling brick warehouses, is a 1.2-million-square-foot white box with Tesla Inc.’s solar panel factory inside. The state of New York paid $750 million to fund this place, based on a commitment to create nearly 1,500 jobs here. On a Tuesday morning in mid-November, a group of two dozen of these workers is monitoring several rows of robots that are stamping out materials for the Solar Roof, a new kind of solar panel that Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk is very excited about. Or was, anyway.

AND AS FOR LAST NIGHT'S EVENTS AT THE VAN WYCK APARTMENT BUILDING, THANK YOU CROTON FIRE DEPARTMENT

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

FOR THOSE WONDERING ABOUT THE NEARLY TWO HOUR EVENTS AT THE VAN WYCK APARTMENT BUILDING, RESIDENTS WERE FORTUNATE THAT IT WAS NOT FREEZING...for everyone ended up outside due to a smoke condition in the building.

FROM THE CROTON FD FB PAGE:  At 11:00 PM last night, a Full Department Response was dispatched to the Van Wyck Apartments on Grand Street for smoke in the building.  Units arrived and immediately determined a malfunction of an oil burner, with low levels of Carbon Monoxide in the building along with fumes that required ventilation.

Members shut down the boiler, aided in evacuating residents, checked for CO levels, vented the fumes and assisted one party who wasn’t feeling well.

Car 2081, Car 2082, Engine 118, Engine 119, Engine 120, Tower Ladder 44, Rescue 18, Utility 14 were on scene with over two dozen CFD Volunteers operating for almost 90 minutes.  Croton EMS, the Ossining EMS Paramedic Unit and Croton Police were on scene, and a dual-response from the Ossining FD was cancelled enroute.

CROTON ANIMAL HOSPITAL VISITS SPARC & PET CONNECTION

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Croton Animal Hospital visits Pet Connection and SPARC
Posted on December 16, 2019 by CAH

This Fall I made two visits to SPARC’s pet connection session with my two dogs, Freddy and Erin, and one of my rabbits, Snowy. SPARC is an organization based in Yorktown that provides therapeutic recreation activities to people with developmental disabilities. Through these activities individuals develop friendships, independence and inclusion skills. I was fortunate enough to visit with 8-10 adults who had varying degrees of disabilities, both physical and cognitive, and their aides. Both evenings we met in Harrison in a church community room and each person had time to interact with my dogs and rabbit. We were able to elicit language and physical displays of affection for the animals, even if only briefly for some of the participants. For their parts, the dogs relished the opportunity to have the additional contact time with caring humans. Although Freddy, a young mini labradoodle, was a little concerned by the motorized wheel chairs on the first visit, he quickly regained his composure and had no reaction on our second visit.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION--A GAZETTE LETTER: CROTON'S ONE PARTY GOVERNMENT

December 22, 2019

The following letter was published in this week’s issue of the Gazette.

To the Editor:

The North Riverside re-zoning plan will go forward regardless of public input. Some of the quotes I hear from residents are: “It’s a done deal”, “They’ll do whatever they want” and “The meetings and questionnaire were just window dressing.”

Unfortunately, this is a result of a one party government. This is not new to Croton and it has happened before. The Municipal Place skate park debacle at a cost of $100K or more. The Gouveia Park sham which will continue to drain resources and can only get worse. A former mayor receiving a Cadillac health plan for his family. The Croton Point Avenue project and the five million dollar renovation of the Municipal Building.

The common threads are the same: One party rule, stacked committees, public meetings that appear to get residents input but are ignored. The same cabal will always be in the background pulling the strings....READ THE REST AT https://www.crotonunited.org/news-views/2019/12/22/crotons-one-party-government

BACK IN 2016, we received the sad news that Linda's aunt--Milada "Millie" Jezek--who had been entertaining us for years with her annual and very beautiful vintage and antique Christmas decorating vignettes, passed away in November at the age of 100.

Millie's displays and the artful, loving way she put it all together every year, will be missed. Fortunately, we have the photo record.  Linda tells us that the family decorated Millie's room so that she passed away surrounded by her treasures. PHOTOS, 2019 GOD SQUAD SLEEP-OUT, HOLY NAME OF MARY

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Another successful God Squad Sleep-out has come and gone. This dynamic youth ministry at Holy Name of Mary once again raised much need money, food, and clothing for Peekskill's CHHOP. Click on the photos below, all rights reserved GOD SQUAD.
