One of our favorites from Retro Renovation is featuring an amazing vintage red dinette set in its latest edition; read more about it here http://bit.ly/1H7pPW4

That got us to remembering this 1950's green dinette that was featured in a local shop some years back. In reasonably good condition at the time although it did have some wear and tear issues--and it might have come home with a friend--except that the seller was looking for an obscene amount. The friend opted to go with a repro instead and even with shipping, saved over $400! The moral here is that you can achieve a retro look without paying overblown prices for the originals....the red dinette discussed over at Retro Renovation, however, was a real bargain at $800 given its minty goodness.

Remembering Ricky Nelson who died this date in 1985:  Here he is with his family in the television series, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952–66).  You may also remember Nelson with John Wayne and Dean Martin in Howard Hawks's western feature film, Rio Bravo (1959). He placed 53 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1957 and 1973....In 1996, he was ranked #49 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time. Read more here.

FOR COLLECTORS OF...PHOTO BY 20TH CENTURY FOX

New from our friends at European Film Star Postcards - PHOTO BY 20TH CENTURY FOX

20th Century Fox (also Twentieth Century Fox or simply Fox) was one of the ‘Big Six’ major American film studios (with Paramount, Warner Bros., Universal, Columbia, and Disney). In 1935, it was formed from the merger of Fox Film and Twentieth Century Pictures. In 1953, 20th Century–Fox introduced CinemaScope, and The Robe (1953) started the trend of wide screens in cinemas. 20th Century–Fox also brought Marilyn Monroe to stardom. Among the studio’s most successful musicals were The King and I (1956--CLICK ON THE PHOTO) and South Pacific (1958). SEE MORE HERE.

MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

Some days there's so much vintage goodness hitting the mailbox, you just don't know where to start--so let's just dive in.

To the right, AN OLDIE BUT GOODIE AND BY SPECIAL REQUEST, a superb piece of wind-up tinplate from West Germany--a 1950's clown on a motorcyle--possibly made by HUKI--and featured in a previous auction @ SeriousToyz.

The graphics are fantastic and it sold for over $339. Really quite amazing--click on the photo.

We're definitely accustomed to happier ads for Christmas Seals than the one to the right! It's from 1942 and features The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse--and the very real fear of a wartime increase in tuberculosis.  Click on the photo.

And finally an oldie but goodie, a "simple" loggie by Howard Lamey--click on the photo below--then the link for more:https://bit.ly/1o1Gk77

NO KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEED APPLY, IN THE NEWS AND TOO IMPORTANT TO MISS

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT--THE DAILY CALLER--Democrats Press Judicial Nominee About Knights Of Columbus Membership--Two Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee are pressing a nominee for the Nebraska federal trial court about his membership in the Knights of Columbus, a fraternal service organization of the Catholic Church. Democratic Sens. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii and Kamala Harris of California submitted written questions in December to Brian Buescher, an Omaha lawyer nominated to the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, proposing that he resign his affiliation with the knights, which they call an “all male society” that “has taken a number of extreme positions” on social questions.

The Catholic News Agency was first to report on Hirono and Harris’ questions respecting the Knights of Columbus. The leadership of the knights expressed disappointment that membership in their organization would be viewed as a disqualifier for public office.  “Our country’s sad history of anti-Catholic bigotry contributed to the founding of the Knights of Columbus, and we are proud of the many Catholics who overcame this hurdle to contribute so greatly to our country,” said Kathleen Blomquist, a spokeswoman for the knights. THERE'S ALWAYS A MORAVIAN STAR AT OUR SAVIOUR LUTHERAN CHURCH...CHRISTMAS 2018

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Yes...it's true...we love the 'German' tradition of hanging MORAVIAN STARS at Christmas (click on the photo for the annual Christmas Display at Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran Church).

For those who don't know, a Moravian star (German: Herrnhuter Stern) is an illuminated Advent, Christmas, or Epiphany decoration popular in Germany and in places in America and Europe where there are Moravian congregations. The stars take their English name from the Moravian Church, originating in Moravia. In Germany, they are known as Herrnhut stars, named after the Moravian Mother Community in Saxony, where they were first commercially produced. Read more about them here.

THE DAILY CALLER...MY GRANDFATHER’S CHRISTMAS ON THE BATTLEFIELD: 74TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE, VIRGINIA KRUTA:
