Who
died this date in 1975---Moses Harry Horwitz (June 19, 1897 – May 4,
1975), known professionally as Moe Howard, was an American actor and
comedian best known as the de facto leader of the Three Stooges,
the farce comedy team who starred in motion pictures and television for
four decades. That group originally started out as Ted Healy and His
Stooges, an act that toured the vaudeville circuit.
Moe's
distinctive hairstyle came about when he was a boy and cut off his curls
with a pair of scissors, producing a ragged shape approximating a bowl

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: SWEDEN--ONCE MOCKED FOR ITS COVID STRATEGY--NOW HAS ONE OF THE LOWEST COVID MORTALITY RATES IN EUROPE, JON MILTIMORE
Early in the coronavirus pandemic, I asked a simple question. Could Sweden’s laissez-faire approach to the coronavirus actually work?
Unlike its European neighbors and virtually all US states, the Swedes had opted to not shut down the economy. The country of 10 million people took what was at first described as “a lighter touch.”
While other countries closed schools and businesses, life in Sweden stayed pretty normal. Kids went to public pools and libraries, while adults sipped wine and had lunch in local bistros. Though mass gatherings were prohibited, children kept going to school, though students older than 16 were encouraged to attend classes remotely. The Swedish government also encouraged people to work remotely and asked people over 70 to isolate themselves, if possible.
For taking this approach, Sweden—and the architect of its public health policies, Anders Tegnell—was widely condemned. Westchester County Police Officer Tim Joyce. Officer Joyce served at the

That's not because the president's chief medical advisor disagrees with the substance of Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle's ruling. No: Fauci thinks the problem is that the courts have any power over public health edicts at all.
"Those types of things really are the purview of the [Centers for Disease Control]. This is a public health issue," Fauci told CNN's Kasie Hunt on Thursday. "We are concerned about that—about courts getting involved in things that are unequivocally public health decisions. I mean, this is a CDC issue; it should not be a court issue."
Considering how much of his life he has spent working within or alongside the federal government, Fauci's belief that the CDC ought to exist outside of the constitutional limitations applied to government actions is stunning. We continue our Saturday posts on British film postcard series with De
Reszke postcards (CLICK ON THE PHOTO FOR THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL LESLIE
HOWARD AND MERLE OBERON). De Reske was a, now forgotten, British
cigarette brand. It was named after Jean de Reszke (1850-1925), a famous
Polish opera star of the late 19th century, and advertised as 'the
Aristocrat of Cigarettes'....In 1927, Millhoff sold out to Godrey
Phillips, an international company which was a fellow competitor. In
the early 1930s, Godfrey Phillips Associated brands published this
series of hand-coloured film star postcards.

New acquisitions: Kwatta collectors cards from Belgium
Recently I found a series of Belgian collectors cards at Delcampe,
which were published in or around 1950 by the chocolate factory Kwatta
in Bois-d'Haine. During the late 1940s, Kwatta had produced sets of Film
Star trading cards in black and white, which were issued with the
Kwatta chocolates. These cards in colour were part of the C-series. At
your local shop you could buy an album with the format 12 X 17,5 cm for
100 cards. The album was named Ciné Stars. On the cover was a lion,
