UPDATE: CORTLANDT PUSHBACK TO MASSIVE CORTLANDT DEVELOPMENT, HEARING POSTPONED TO APRIL, OPPOSITION MOUNTING

CORTLANDT, NY — Opposition is mounting to a proposal to turn more than 100 acres of residential Cortlandt into a mix of medical, residential, assisted living, hotel and commercial uses as well as parking and public amenities on multiple parcels. As a result, town officials have delayed their vote until April 17.

The MOD or "Medically Oriented District" was created as part of ENVISION CORTLANDT, the town's Sustainable Comprehensive Plan.

Its stated purpose is encourage revitalization and economic expansion in the area immediately surrounding the New York Presbyterian-Hudson Valley Hospital Center and along the Route 202/35 corridor. The town approved it in 2018...But now the size and scope of what's planned has astonished and alarmed residents...READ MORE AT https://patch.com/new-york/peekskill/hearing-cortlandts-mod-postponed-april

AS ALWAYS, SOME WONDERFUL FINDS, SPECIAL REQUESTS, OLDIES BUT GOODIES AND MORE. Click on the photos and links.

First up, another great ad from 1945 for Community Silverplate.  Just love the Back Home For Keeps advertising series this silverware company used.

Next up, remembering Alan Ladd, who died in 1964.  Ladd had his big break as a killer in the film noir This Gun For Hire (1942). Throughout the 1940s, his tough-guy roles packed audiences, but he is best known for his title role in the classic Western Shane (1953). Read and see much more here from our friends at European Film Star Postcards.

Ladd was fantastic as the gunfighter Shane. Here's a great clip of the gunfight with Jack Palance.

And finally, timing is everything in life.  A friend of ours has always wanted this cotton candy machine from Nostalgia Electrics as part of her July 4th vintage holiday display but couldn't justify the cost...we found it in a thrift shop for ten dollars---without the box---but it works!  Best darn birthday present ever according to the husband!

And finally, courtesy of Mark P, the 1970 Poloron catalog---see it in all glory here.

Again, click on the photos and links.

We've been having fun looking at an old JOHNSON & SMITH NOVELTY CATALOG...

CUOMO'S STAR--WHY THIS CHANGE IS CAUSING OUTRAGE, IT'S ALREADY A NIGHTMARE ACCORDING TO SEN. HARCKHAM

LOHUD: ALBANY – State lawmakers are criticizing a proposed change to the state’s popular STAR program that would expand who gets checks rather than upfront savings in homeowners' school tax bills.  In his state budget proposal last week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo recommended that New York send STAR checks to all homeowners who earn $200,000 a year or above. They have been receiving the exemption upfront in their school tax bills since the program's inception in the mid-1990s. The move comes after the state Legislature and Cuomo agreed last year to switch everyone with an adjusted gross income between $250,000 to $500,000 to a check. "It’s already a nightmare," Sen. Pete Harckham, D-Yorktown, Westchester County, said.  MORE AT https://www.lohud.com/story/news/politics/albany/2020/01/28/why-potential-star-change-causing-angst-its-already-nightmare/4596837002/

ANOTHER BANNER WINTER SUNDAY IN THE HUDSON VALLEY---THE CROTON MINI DELI, EAGLES, DeCICCIO'S AND GIOVANNI'S

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

ANOTHER BANNER WINTER SUNDAY IN THE HUDSON VALLEY---NO SNOW--AND NOT AS COLD AS USUAL---but in the aftermath of one wicked windy and rainy 24 hours, it was time to look for eagles and get some errands done as well...click on the photos and links....

BUT FIRST....TAKE-OUT FROM THE CROTON MINI DELI...an amazing Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich to start the day off right...

Then off to Croton Point Park, greener than we are used to seeing at this time of year---and happy to report that there was minimal storm damage as far as we could tell.

Didn't spot any eagles this time--although there have been quite a few in recent weeks---see photos at the Croton Point Nature Center FB page here.

We took a quick drive to Verplank instead and had better luck at the Cortlandt Veterans Park.

It seems particularly fitting that we can generally can find a mature eagle in what appears to be a favorite tree adjacent to the American flag and monument.

Time for errands and with that, we headed for DeCicco & Sons in Millwood.

We've been hearing about this place for years and they did not disappoint. Spotless, well organized, with high quality produce--including beautiful heirloom tomatoes---hard to find cheeses, Artisan breads, chutneys and more.  Friendly, knowledgeable staff too--and a well-curated seafood and meat section.

Outstanding house-made guacamole too.

And they also stock Urban Roots, Veggie Side Kits---check that out here.

And Millwood is only one of their many locations.

For more about DeCICCO & SONS, visit https://www.deciccoandsons.com/

ALL AND ALL, ANOTHER BANNER WINTER SUNDAY IN THE HUDSON VALLEY.....

p.s. We picked up an order of Deviled Eggs from Croton's own Giovanni's this afternoon---the best we have had in years--with just enough kick. And we'll be ordering them again.
