MORE EVERYTHING CROTON'S FABULOUS VINTAGE FINDS, WEBSITES, ETC.

Ed Berg reminded us that Gerry Anderson, creator of iconic sci-fi / fantasy kids fare like Supercar, Stingray, Fireball XL-5,  the wildly popular Thunderbirds and many more, passed away recently; read more here http://www.toyconnect.blogspot.com/2012/12/rip-gerry-anderson.html

We've received so many requests for help in finding patterns/templates to make your own cardboard putz houses that we're sending you to the BEST place around--you can find hundreds of patterns and templates conveniently located in one place--not to mention the best advice at Cardboard Christmas Dot Com; click on the link: http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=10

VINTAGE JAYLINE TINPLATE BUILDING, SUBURBAN STATION http://www.toyconnect.blogspot.com/2012/12/jayline-no-201-suburban-station.html

It was our privilege to shoot and scan some pages of a 1930's movie star scrapbook belonging to a local vintage Hollywood morabilia collector here in the village. We've had to do heavy duty restoration in some cases, but with classics like these, we're sure you'll agree it was worth it--especially the MGM two page mega-ad; click on the photos below.

FROM A BRITISH CHRISTMAS FAN & MORE EVERYTHINGCROTON'S FABULOUS VINTAGE FINDS

We were delighted to be sent these charming ads from a British vintage Christmas collector and reader of EverythingCroton--for The Vitagraph Company; the Santa is from 1925; the film offerings are from 1914-1915. Click on the photos below and many thanks! We just adore this illustration of Santa Claus.

MORE EVERYTHING CROTON'S FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC.

Local Disney collector Andy sent us this restored 1937 Radio Mirror cover featuring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck--and promises to send us the article inside when he can. Click on the photo.

In the meantime, here are some great Christmas ads from his collection--circa 1936 and 1937. We especially love the ad for the 1936 "Radio Lamp"--and for only a dollar...which was probably a tidy sum in '36.

And the Santa Claus ad for RJ Reynolds Tobacco.

We'll take a dozen. Also included below is a scan from a matted Christmas image we bought at The Cornelia Cotton Gallery some years ago--circa 1950's (111 Grand St, Croton on Hudson, NY)--mainly for the train! And a great 1934 Maybelline ad from Lisa. Click on the photos!

MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

And now an item from the vintage Christmas novelty department:

An old toy/”musical novelty” with a Christmas theme: ‘CHRISTMAS EVE CAPERS’—made by Glolite--wind it up, the children “sneak” down the stairs while Santa Claus descends from the chimney; once “spotted”, Santa scoots back up the chimney—ditto for the kids—to repeat the process over and over again all powered by the music box mechanism. See the 1949 ad below.

Followed by an incredible restoration by our friend CF; click on the photos below--in her case, the Santa and children were missing—so she made copies. We were also both missing the deer head over the fireplace—she made one for hers!

A MESSAGE FROM THE CROTON YACHT CLUB:
The Croton Yacht Club held its annual children’s holiday party on Saturday, December 21st where the children were entertained by “Mad Science” presenting “imaginative learning” and also face painting. After pizza and ice cream, the children were visited by Santa, who distributed a toy to each child. Donations from members and guests resulted and five large bags of toys delivered to the “Croton Caring Committee” and the “Toys for Tots” programs.

2012, SOME PHOTOS FROM TODAY'S LAS POSADAS AT HOLY NAME OF MARY

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Today was the conclusion of Las Posadas, a tradition in which the Holy Family’s search for a room at the inn is re-enacted for several days by members of Holy Name of Mary Spanish Ministry. It culminates in songs and a reception of ethnic food, pinatas, and Santa Claus in the Parish Meeting Rooms. We stopped by there today to join in the fun (and we had a very good time watching Santa do the Macarena!) Click on the photos below. MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

The simplicity of this North Pole News putz by Howard Lamey is balanced by its accessories--the Uncle Sam poster, the stacked papers on the counter....we love it. Click on the photo. See more of Howard's work here: www.littleglitterhouses.com

Every now and then we come across a vintage ad campaign for a product that really rocks our socks. Think the Kool Penguin ads of the 30’s (see http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2011/09/more-everything-crotons-fabulous_22.html) and the Hueblein Ready Made Cocktail ads of the 60’s featuring Robert Goulet and Peter Lawford among others, (see http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2012/09/more-everything-crotons-fabulous_16.html)  And now, courtesy of our friend X Ray Delta One comes:
