SUPREME COURT LETS TRUMP RESUME WHITE HOUSE BALLROOM CONSTRUCTION

Construction on the new White House ballroom can continue, the Supreme Court ruled Monday in a victory for President Trump. 2026 Hudson River Day

Press Release

The Croton Yacht Club is happy to announce its annual “Hudson River Day” celebration will be held on Saturday, September 12th, from 11 AM - 4 PM at the Croton Yacht Club located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson.  (CLICK ON THE IMAGE.)

The mission of the event is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote, enhance and protect river related recreational resources. There will be events and exhibits throughout the day targeting both children and adults, focusing on the history and ecology of the river. Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making, fossil making; sail boat rides, and local artist displays and sales.

Free sailboat rides, will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22’ sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first come first served basis. The sails will depart at 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM and 3PM. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent beginning at 10:00AM for any of the day's scheduled sail times. Limit of 4 passengers per sail. Passenger age requirement: must be at least 12 years old, under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.

There will also be a youth fishing clinic and contest sponsored by the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and the Yacht Club. Fishing rod and reel combinations will also be awarded as prizes. All youths wishing to fish at the Yacht Club must be accompanied by an adult.

The Croton Yacht Club looks forward to coordinating this event because it provides the membership and local exhibitors the opportunity to share their river related knowledge and expertise with the community, especially the children. The organization realizes that only through this transfer of knowledge can it safeguard the future of this great resource, the Hudson River. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission is free so please come and join us in a fun filled, educational and family focused event you will surely enjoy. NY POST EDITORIAL--LETITIA JAMES' ABUSES OF POWER LAID BARE AS TOP PROSECUTOR BLOW THE WHISTLE

New York Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld may be Whistleblower of the Year: He just called out Attorney General Tish James’ horrific abuses of power in burning “significant public taxpayer dollars to target convenient public enemies,” not least President Donald Trump, with no cause.

The office should focus on prosecuting “rampant nonprofit homeless shelter fraud and antisemitic crimes in and around synagogues,” he thundered in a weekend email blasted to 2,000 staff in the state AG’s office.

His first-hand knowledge doesn’t directly implicate James: He alleges only that his direct superior, Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe, told him to target “Trump himself, Truth Social, Hewlett Packard (DOJ approved merger)” without bothering to first find “a credible reason for targeting the organizations and individuals.” But he (understandably) believes Maswoswe was following orders from James, who after all ran for the office vowing to target Trump. YONKERS TIMES--CONGRESSMAN LAWLER SUPPORTS NEW CONTRACT FOR WESTCHESTER COUNTY POLICE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses or worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

YONKERS TIMES--CONGRESSMAN LAWLER SUPPORTS NEW CONTRACT FOR WESTCHESTER COUNTY POLICE

The men and women of the Westchester County Police Department have gone three years without a contract. In that time, the county has not promoted a single sergeant or lieutenant, and the department is down three captains, five lieutenants, and five sergeants.

It has gotten so bad that the county is pulling supervising officers out of the Westchester County Airport Precinct just to cover minimum patrol staffing. That airport handles over 170,000 flights a year, and the federal government is investing nearly $18 million to modernize its air traffic control, funding I helped deliver in Congress.

I stand with the men and women of the Westchester County Police PBA. County Executive Ken Jenkins should immediately settle a fair contract and make the promotions. MORE AT Congressman Lawler -Supports New Contract for Westchester County Police | Yonkers Times

OBITUARY FOR MARSHALL NATHAN

NATHAN--Marshall. Marshall Nathan, a Harvard University applied physics Ph.D. graduate in 1958 and an inventor of the semiconductor laser in 1962, died on August 23, 2026. Today, the semiconductor laser is by far the most widely used laser. It accounts for more than $8 billion in annual revenue. The laser enables fiber optic telecommunications, the compact disc and a wide variety of scanners, including the bar code scanner in every supermarket. The realization of the semiconductor laser was a race between several industrial and academic research laboratories. Marshall and his colleagues at the IBM Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, made the first demonstration of such a laser in November 1962. AND JESSICA DIECKMAN LETTER AT EverythingCroton: AN OPEN LETTER TO THE MAYOR, BOT, AND VILLAGE MANAGER REGARDING PROPOSED INTRODUCTORY LAW NO.10 OF 2026

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE MAYOR, BOT, AND VILLAGE MANAGER REGARDING PROPOSED INTRODUCTORY LAW NO.10 OF 2026

An open letter to the Mayor, BOT and village manager,

Your proposed pet, domestic and farm animal laws would clearly make it illegal for residents to house small pet reptiles and amphibians in tanks in their homes because they have a very small piece of property, and many people are certainly not fifty feet from their property lines in any direction.

Please explain if the village would come after people for fish, reptiles, amphibians, rabbits or guinea pigs living in enclosures inside the home if they are closer than fifty feet away from a property line. Many Croton neighbors and residents keep these types of small animals, which are perfectly legal to own and can be purchased at most pet stores and the Reptile Show that happens four to six times a year at the Westchester County Center.

I highly recommend you remove the section in your proposed law as many people all over Croton and Westchester County own and enjoy these pets. It’s a ridiculous, highly restrictive, and totalitarian law, and just because members of the BOE don’t own reptiles or small animals like this doesn’t mean they should attempt to ban them legally from small homes or apartments. Please change or throw out your proposed law.

The law is poorly written, stating that anyone with a pet other than a dog or cat closer than fifty feet from property lines is breaking the law. I would recommend the board and the lawyer reword it so that the law applies to outdoor animals only, being housed outside, and not indoor pets living inside homes.

Does the village plan on coming into people’s personal homes, bedrooms and private spaces, measuring out the property lines from tanked-animals’ enclosures? If they are closer than fifty feet from the property line, will they then be made to remove or kill the animal to comply with this nonsensical village law?

Who dreams up these poorly written laws designed to punish people for no reason?

10/17 CROTON NATURE CENTER---CROTON POINT PARK'S FORGOTTEN COMMUNITY: THE BUGALOW COLONY

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses or worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Every summer from 1926 until 1964, the Croton Point Park Association took up residence in their bungalow colony at Croton Point Park. They had a baseball team, a community center, weekly dances, a flourishing newspaper. We will look into how this group lived, what life was like, and what happened after their houses were torn down. A lecture with slides, archival media, and a Q+A afterwards, taking place in the Nature Center.

And the response from our officials has been GLACIAL.  Here is a past letter addressing---and predicting---these issues:

Letter to the Editor

Spring is here. Look out for those electric bikes, pedal power bikes, scooters, and skateboards etc.that will be on the sidewalks throughout the village. Pedestrians beware! They are fast and silent, and you will have to jump into the street to save yourself. It is particularly harrowing if they come at you in a pack, especially near Dairy Mart on S. Riverside Ave.

It seems the sidewalks in the village are for bikes and not for pedestrians. It begs the question of why we spend so much time talking about our bike lanes and sharrows and hardly use them. Try a pleasant walk along Elliott Way, and you’ll get the idea pretty fast. Is it just more virtue signaling?

All kidding aside, the bike issue is serious. Why do we still not have a helmet law in Croton? It’s common sense. Why don’t we have bicycle safety training, so when bicyclists ride in the street, they don’t run stop signs, they signal their intentions and they have properly equipped bikes with lights, mirrors and a horn or bell.

We have a police force equipped with very nice electric bikes, why can’t they patrol more and instruct bicyclists on the rules of the road and personal safety equipment? Possibly issue a warning for unsafe operation of a vehicle. Maybe it’s time to register electric bicycles since some can reach 20 MPH or more.

It is a real safety issue for pedestrians and cyclists. I’m sure some folks think our “quaint village” image would suffer from some commonsense safety enforcement and education, but I disagree.

When someone gets seriously injured, there will be the wringing of hands and apologies by the village elders wondering how this could have happened. I suggest that there is a lack of action. I’ve written about this before to no avail. The lack of response was disheartening so I will try again. Please do something before someone gets hurt.

MY CHART SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!

Another reader says she was hit with a bunch of these---and of course all were deleted but...it's worth mentioning again!

Getting the usual reports of a sudden uptick in residents receiving scam emails from PAYPAL claiming they are being charged for "virus protection"--DELETE THESE!

But there's a new wrinkle; many residents are subscribed to Mychart via their doctors---this appears to be the latest scam:

A reader says: Anyone else getting emails claiming to be from Mychart app stating that your account needs to be updated and you will receive a free care package. Got this email twice from 2 different emails. Put it to spam. Still comes back. Could be next fraud scheme.

WEEKEND YADA YADA YADA

Many of us are not on social media but we often get to hear about it and are sometimes sent screenshots--it's the weekend however. and we prefer to garden, pickle some home-grown green beans, and spend time with our friends, pets, and family instead of drowning in the-sky-is-falling misery and political muck. So this will be a quick one:

****Those Pennsylvania measles cases: Ultimately, the state is looking at the cases through the lens of outbreak statistics (the virus was present), while local authorities are looking through the lens of forensic causality (what physically ended the patient's life as in the case of the infant, a ruptured spleen per the coroner). [1, 2, 3]

****Arday book release; dismal numbers here in the US; not much better in the UK; and now his alleged "autism" is under dispute---the autism being based only on his testimony: Every profile written about Arday—from major broadcasts on the BBC to features in The New York Times and his own Simon & Schuster memoir—relied entirely on self-reported details. No official medical records, childhood clinical assessments, or doctor statements were ever provided to confirm the diagnoses. Just not going to get into this sad tale any further this weekend.
