AND NOW... SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: GLORIA SWANSON, KENYON COX & JACKIE GLEASON

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: GLORIA SWANSON, KENYON COX, AND THE GREAT ONE A'LA  JACKIE GLEASON.........As always, c
lick on the photos and links.

First up (ABOVE), from 1927 and Screenland Magazine, Croton's own Gloria Swanson--heads off for Hollywood----with brief mention of her Croton home--her third husband the Marquis--and her second independent production.....

And then...from Screenland a year later, May 1928 to be precise....

The Honor Page, THAT'S THAT....a two page spread that we've sliced and diced for easier viewing.  Also mentioned is Swanson's hit SADIE THOMPSON.

As for the Marquis--French aristocrat Henri, Marquis de la Falaise de la Coudraye--whom Swanson married in 1925 after her divorce from Herbert Somborn was finalized--this marriage would also end in divorce (1930).  Swanson was the first film star to marry European nobility.  The marriage became a global sensation-----the divorce as well.

The Marquis de La Coudraye was awarded the Croix de Guerre for heroism during World War I, during which time he was attached to the 70th Division of the American Expeditionary Forces.

He received the Croix de Guerre for bravery during World War II, while he was attached to the British 12th Royal Lancers....
