IN THE NEWS: NEARLY 230 RIKERS WOMEN AND TRANS INMATES TO BE SENT TO THE HAMLET OF BEDFORD HILLS, LOHUD

Nearly 230 women and trans people incarcerated at New York City's Rikers Island jail complex will soon be transferred to two Westchester prisons to help ease the crisis at the troubled jail that has had more than 10 deaths this year.  Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that those affected would be temporarily moved to either Bedford Hills or Taconic correctional facilities starting next week.  The two prisons are located across the street from each other in the hamlet of Bedford Hills.
