HRFA "Catfish Chaos" Tournament Results 2019

Matteo Dinis, age 7 from Cortlandt Manor, was named Youth Division Champion of the 2019 Hudson River “Catfish Chaos” tournament on Saturday, August 21st at the Haverstraw Marina where over $4,600 in cash and prizes were awarded to participants. Matteo is seen here proudly displaying his trophy and new fishing rod. Matteo was also the recipient of a college scholarship award, all courtesy of the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association.

The river wide tournament, sponsored and managed by the HRFA took place on Saturday, August 17th. Open to all age groups, the tournament’s main focus is on the children which is where the HRFA understands the future of the river depends. 151 catfish we’re entered by 150 participants at 8 weigh stations along the river where they were all measured, recorded and released by volunteer members of the HRFA.

Matteo caught his trophy 21” channel catfish at the Croton Yacht Club, alongside a contingent of Wounded Warriors and their families who were hosted by the club. Matteo caught his prize winner on bait he caught with his brother Logan, his Grandfather and Uncle which was shared with all of the Wounded Warrior participants.

This was the third year of this annual event. For information on future HRFA events and the organization in general, please visit them on their website at hrfanj.org. The next area river fishing event will take place at the Croton Yacht Club on Saturday September 7th at their annual “Hudson River Day” celebration. Their youth fishing clinic and contest is sponsored by the Yacht Club and managed in coordination with HRFA volunteers. Fishing contest prizes and raffle prizes will be awarded to children throughout the day. The event is held free of charge and is open to the general public.
