CONTINUED COVERAGE OF CROTON RIVER ISSUES, INCREASED ENFORCEMENT ETC. WEEKEND OF 8/17 & 8/18

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

CONTINUED COVERAGE OF CROTON RIVER ISSUES, INCREASED ENFORCEMENT ETC. WEEKEND OF 8/17 & 8/18 - MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE UPDATES.

8/17/19 - QUAKER BRIDGE ROAD WEST AREA, BLACK ROCK PARK SIDE OF RIVER, OSSINING, and PARADISE ISLAND

--Around noon 8/17, 2 cars legally parked near the entrance to NYS Aqueduct Trail & river access, 1 County police car parked near the flashing sign and not a single vehicle parked on the road between Crotonville and the Quaker Bridge. Side streets also appeared clear.

--Also, the emergency vehicle access to the Aqueduct still had its bar in place.

--At 3:30, 3 legally parked cars, a County police car, this time with officer engaged in conversation with people parked at the entry, one taking photos.

--Nearby Gerlach Park, one Ossining police car in it. One private car parked there as well. Might have been enforcement, visit, volunteer? No idea what Ossining's residency restrictions are, if any.

--Reported as well: No cars parked along QBR West, BUT 4 or 5 groups of walkers carrying heavy stuff like coolers headed for the NYS entry to the river. No idea where they had parked. There were two reports of "blocking lanes" and multiple reports of somewhat "smirky" behavior as drivers slowed down...approximately 3pm-ish...this appears to be the "witching hour" for attendance spikes.

--All quiet on the Black Rock Park side of the river. However, very early morning reports of swimming that day

--Paradise Island, the usual problematic activity, but not as many people.

8/17, 8/18 MAYO'S LANDING/SILVER LAKE AREA

Let it suffice to say that many residents in these areas have reported much improvement. This has been attributed to far greater police presence and enforcement.  There are still calls however, to make parking on certain streets resident-only or "guest of resident".  Residents are encouraged to contact village board members/staff at crotononhudson-ny.gov

ALSO FYI: The Sat. Travel section of the Sunday New York Times had multiple pages dedicated to hiking/biking/swimming trails and access in each of NYC's 5 boroughs. Nothing about Westchester, etc.

8/12 UPDATE IS HERE

Please advise if you have any additional info to report from 8/17 and 8/18.

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE KAYAKER REMOVING ONE BAG OF TRASH FROM THE CROTON RIVER/TRESTLE AREA

  1. Thank you to everyone who is doing more than talking and to the police departments for the extra enforcement. It is really making a difference. By the way, thanks for acknowledging that a lot of people in kayaks and rowboats take out the weekend garbage.
