8/12/19 CROTON RIVER ISSUES, AN UPDATE, BLACK ROCK, SILVER LAKE, MAYO'S TOO

--Fewer than normal kayakers seen on the river THIS PAST WEEKEND. Two avid village resident kayakers report that they now drive “out of town” and have no interest in returning to “Croton waters” until sometime after the swimming season concludes.

--Heavy police presence locally continues. A combination of continued enforcement at both Silver Lake and Mayo’s, as well as cooler weather and fewer users--both village resident and non-resident--has reduced numbers.

--Local home owner reportedly has found evidence of picnicking on her property—at some unknown point--and is now looking into the costs and regulations regarding fencing and no trespassing signs.  FENCE INFO ON THE VILLAGE WEBSITE IS HERE.

--Black Rock/Area/River activity lessened—the flashing no parking sign on Quaker Bridge has cut down on the illegal parking. Coordinated town of Cortlandt, county and environmental police enforcement appears to be working.

ALSO FYI: CROTON POINT PARK VERY BUSY; PARKING LOT MOTOR VEHICLE FIRE; CROTON FD RESPONDED; MORE HERE

UPDATED 3PM SUNDAY: Local kayakers report that as of approximately 3:00 on Sunday, the Croton River was packed with kayakers, paddle boarders, and now people bring inflatable boats. They chose to head under the train bridge and out along the shore line on Croton Point Park--more peaceful--police also appear to be enforcing the parking restrictions at Echo Canoe Launch.
