MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

As always, some fab finds---oldies but goodies---special requests and more-----click on the photos and links...

First up, yes...we love feather trees...the original "artificial" Christmas trees...here's a shot via Angela and a past Golden Glow convention--complete with vintage/antique spun cotton fruit ornaments (a popular motif at the time) and very old END OF DAY glass ornaments too.

It's followed by a great Popeye game from 1948, courtesy of Croton's own SERIOUSTOYZ.COM; fabulous graphics.

And from the creative hands of Howard Lamey, every putz village needs a farmer milking a cow "faux flattie".....And finally a marvelous, filled with inuendo, Kelloggs Cornflake ad from 1910.  p.s. the "faux flattie farmer" pattern and such can be found here.

But back to feather trees, they're still being made today--some with plastic stems/needles--others with real goose feathers--those can be very expensive---and some of the plastic ones are done so well you can't tell the difference until you touch the branches.

And...should you ever want to replicate the spun cotton fruit ornaments (the antique varieties are again, NOT cheap if you can even find them), Blumchen has some options available--you'll see spun cotton watting and shapes here: http://www.blumchen.com/craft_shop_batting_watte.html

You'll also find spun cotton fruit shapes, pears, cherries, from the Czech Republic and Germany at 32 Derees North a.k.a. Vintage Ornaments--click here

And if you are feeling REALLY adventurous and want to make your own feather tree, here's a "how to" from Howard Lamey using an alternative to feathers; click here

And a wonderful video about how REAL feather trees are STILL being made today in "the old manner"--click here
