BY SPECIAL REQUEST, 1922, CROTON'S GLORIA SWANSON IN "MY AMERICAN WIFE"

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

As many of you know, Gloria Swanson was one of the village's most notable residents.  (Her home still stands on Mt. Airy Road).

You can read more about that here.

We were delighted to come across this review in a recent vintage magazine haul for Swanson in the 1922 production of MY AMERICAN WIFE with Antonio Moreno.  Click on the photos and links.

Courtesy of Wikipedia: The film was produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

It is not known whether it currently survives, which suggests that it is a lost film.  Many films from the silent era suffered a similar fate but in recent years, a few have turned up overseas.  So hope springs eternal!   In any case....

Moreno was a highly regarded matinee idol, appearing opposite such successful actors as Gloria Swanson, Blanche Sweet, Pola Negri, and Dorothy Gish.

He was often typecast in his earliest films as the "Latin Lover", as were other actors of the era with Latin roots, such as Ramón Novarro and Rudolph Valentino.
You can read more about Moreno here

You may also enjoy reading about Swanson in the controversial 1928 production of Sadie Thompson here.
