Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
One of the EverythingCroton elves sent an odd little story today from the Brooklyn Eagle dated January 2, 1926 - entitled THE NUT. It details the life of a colorful Croton resident named Harold Sharpe a.k.a. Harold Bringhurst, who allegedly lived here in the 20's. The article was written by Fannie Hurst, then the highest paid short story writer. Click on the photos below--we boosted the poor quality of the images as best we could.
As to whether or not Bringhurst was a fictional character, we're still checking!
Also fyi, Hurst published over 300 short stories during her lifetime and is known for the film adaptations of her works, including Humoresque (1946), starring Joan Crawford; and Young at Heart (1954), starring Frank Sinatra.
