SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES CLIFFORD HARMON, LENORE ULRIC, KATHLEEN BELLER, AND W. EUGENE SMITH

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

OUR VERY POPULAR SERIES CONTINUES IN 2025---SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES CLIFFORD HARMON, LENORE ULRIC, KATHLEEN BELLER, AND W. EUGENE SMITH--click on the photos and links.

Stumbled across this 12/26/1917 piece from The New York Clipper paper involving Croton's CLIFFORD E. HARMON (read more about him here) and a Day-After-Christmas vaudeville show given for the prisoners of Sing Sing by James Eckl, a leading theatrical agent of the day.  Among the acts: the Kainoa Hawaiian Troupe was part of the vaudeville era, showcasing Hawaiian music and culture to audiences in the early 20th century. The team of Truax and Sommers is more than likely Sarah Truax, an American actor active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who starred in productions like The Two Orphans and The Garden of Allah. She was also involved in community theater later in her career.

Next up, a brief bit about Croton's Lenore Ulric, from Theatre Magazine 1926.(Click on the photo.)

By the 1920s she was a top draw for Belasco. The New York Times would call her “an actress whose name in white lights blazing on a playhouse marquee was always more compelling of attention than the attraction in which she was appearing.”........The Times would later say “In the years of her greatest success, an ‘Ulric role’ was an understood phrase.” READ AND SEE MUCH MORE AT

AND SHE WAS MARRIED TO SYDNEY BLACKMER (OF ROSEMARY'S BABY FAME) RIGHT HERE IN CROTON; GO TO EverythingCroton: LENORE ULRIC MARRIED TO SYDNEY BLACKMER AT CROTON-ON-HUDSON

Next up, Croton's Kathleen Beller (read more about that here). Click on the image from The Globe, 2015, and the reunion cast photo for the television show DYNASTY--minus Linda Evans (click on the photo). It being a tabloid paper, your editor will spare you the article claiming that "Evan's shocking no-show is being blamed on her still-boiling feud with her former on-camera rival, Joan Collins". Beller perhaps is best remembered for her role from 1982 to 1984 as Kirby Anders Colby.

And finally, Croton photographer, W. Eugene Smith--
we stumbled upon a Flickr album of photos from the Exhibition of W. Eugene Smith's photography in the FOAM Gallery in Amsterdam,NL - Smith is considered the master of the photo-essay. (b.1918 - d.1978); see the flickr album at W.Eugene Smith in FOAM | Flickr
