Back in 2018, we included a short review about Croton's Peter Strauss in the 1971 Italian production, MAN OF LEGEND A.K.A. SARGEANT KLEMS.
Unfortunately, a reader informed us some time ago that the link to the review was no longer live. We finally got around to a 2025 update--here's what we have found:
The 1971 Italian film was directed by Sergio Grieco; it starred Peter Strauss in the lead role as Sergeant Otto Josef Klems. The film is a mix of action, adventure, and war drama.
The story follows a German soldier during World War I who assumes the identity of a deceased comrade to avoid execution for desertion. After the war, he joins the French Foreign Legion and is stationed in Morocco, where he becomes disillusioned with colonial oppression. Eventually, he deserts and aligns himself with the local Moroccan resistance, teaching them modern military tactics and becoming deeply involved in their struggle.
The film is noted for its dramatic battle sequences and Peter Strauss's compelling performance as a man caught between conflicting loyalties and identities. It also features Tina Aumont and Pier Paolo Capponi in supporting roles. YOU CAN WATCH IT IN ITS ENTIRETY ON YOUTUBE AT (295) Il sergente Klems , 1971, con Peter Strauss - YouTube
