NEW YORK CITY WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO ABANDON PART OF ITS WATER SUPPLY IF IT KEEPS GETTING SALTIER

NYC will eventually have to abandon part of its water supply if it keeps getting saltier--By MICHAEL HILL, Associated Press---Updated March 21, 2025 9:15 a.m.--The suburban reservoirs that supply 10% of New York City's vaunted drinking water are getting saltier due to decades of road salt being spread near the system — and they will eventually have to be abandoned if nothing is done to reverse the trend, city officials warn. 1. It was only a matter of time before this became a concern. Though not a “Croton” issue. I wonder what the salinity level of the Duck Pond is now and how it would compare to the decades before the 90’s. The Duck Pond used to fully freeze, from end to end. You can attribute some to rising winter temperatures, but the area near the drain pipe at the parking lot never freezes anymore from all the road salt. The amount of salt the village puts down is destroying everything it touches. Time to find an alternative..
