SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: GLORIA SWANSON, HOLBOOK BLINN, PETER STRAUSS AND ERIC KNIGHT

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

OUR VERY POPULAR SERIES CONTINUES IN 2025---SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: GLORIA SWANSON, HOLBROOK BLINN, PETER STRAUSS AND ERIC KNIGHT--CLICK ON THE IMAGES AND LINKS.

BUT FIRST, A SPECAL REQUEST FROM A READER FOR A 1927 CREAM FUDGE RECIPE ATTRIBUTED TO CROTON'S own Gloria Swanson!  SWANSON, as you may know, had an estate on Mt. Airy road--you can see an article with exterior shot images at EverythingCroton: 1924, PHOTOS FROM GLORIA SWANSON'S CROTON HOME

As many of you know, Holbrook Blinn was an actor of some renown.  Here he is in the circa 1925 production of David Belasco's (yes THAT Belasco) THE DOVE with Judith Anderson.

We were curious about this one and found scans from a 1925 Playbill; see them at The Dove (Broadway, Empire Theatre, 1925) | Playbill

--Came across an old TV Guide with a listing for a movie starring Croton's Peter Strauss and Barbara Hershey, called ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER.

We were intrigued and.....

It's a 1980 American fantasy made-for-television film directed by John Berry and starring Peter Strauss, Richard Kiley, and Barbara Hershey. It's also a remake of the 1946 film of the same name that starred Paul Muni, Anne Baxter and Claude Rains.

And finally here's a 1941 review for THIS ABOVE ALL by Croton's Eric Knight.

For those who don't know, the author of Lassie Come Home--and the wonderful THIS ABOVE ALL--was Croton's own Eric Knight. Knight was killed in a plane crash during WWII along with another Croton resident, William Hodson.

It was later made into a movie with Tyrone Power and Joan Fontaine. (CLICK HERE FOR THAT.)
