REMEMBERING THE FABULOUS CHARLIE SHAVERS

Yes...if you haven't guessed by now...your editor grew up in a "jazz household"....and so:

REMEMBERING CHARLIE SHAVERS...who died this date in 1971---a superb jazz trumpeter who played with some of the greats: Dizzy Gillespie, Nat King Cole, Roy Eldridge, Johnny Dodds, Jimmie Noone, Sidney Bechet, Midge Williams, Tommy Dorsey, and Billie Holiday. He was an arranger and composer, and one of his compositions, "Undecided", is a jazz standard.

  1. My dad has a big black and white photo with him and the Bellson Quintet and, assorted autographs. It was his pride possession next to the signed photo of Jackie Gleason.
