Frederick Feiker could be considered the father of the National Christmas Tree. As an assistant to Commerce Secretary, Herbert Hoover, he was instrumental in convincing President Coolidge in 1923 to light a tree for Christmas. It was to encourage others to do the same and help the then growing national electric grid.   1. This brought back a lot of memories. My father especially planted an evergreen in the front yard with the anticipation that he could string all the C-9 bulbs he had been buying at garage sales. He used to call it the Family National Christmas Tree.
