-- ABOUT THAT POT LEGISLATION, GALEF VOTES NO, OTHER MUNICIPALITIES NEED/WANT THE CASH...an article from River Journal....

Is the Grass Always Greener?  EXCERPTED.

Christian Larson ‘The only thing we’d be opting out from is revenue-sharing that our community needs for public services.’ – Croton-on-Hudson Mayor Brian Pugh

On April 30, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that made New York the sixteenth state to fully legalize marijuana.

What does that mean exactly?  New Yorkers are now able to legally possess up to three grams of marijuana, and smoke it wherever cigarette smoking is allowed.  Those who have been convicted of marijuana-related crimes will have their records expunged.  Police cannot use the odor of marijuana to initiate a search, but driving under the influence of it will remain a misdemeanor.

The bill, known as the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA), was passed by a 94-56 margin in the state Assembly and 40-23 in the state Senate. Among its supporters was Senator Pete Harckham, whose 40th District includes the City of Peekskill and Town of Cortlandt. ......One notable dissenter was Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, who voted “No” on the bill. She had previously cosponsored a 2012 bill to legalize medical marijuana in the state.

To the Editor:

Last year, many members of our community were upset over the opening of a vape shop in Croton. Marijuana retail stores in Croton are not likely to be as controversial as e-cigarette merchants, but the pending legalization of marijuana in Croton is coming at a rapid pace and some legislation and education outreach needs to be done now.

It is time for us to have a conversation and make some decisions about Village laws and policy. READ MORE AT https://bit.ly/2FklIHy
