AND NOW BY SPECIAL REQUEST: THE MILITARY ART OF H. CHARLES McBARRON, FROM THE ARCHIVES OF THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EverythingCroton.

The Croton Historical Society is a wonderful repository of donated and discovered items, it's archives lovingly maintained by the volunteers. We were reminded of this again when a reader asked about a "set of military prints" that your editor had scanned and posted back in 2012. Here they are again--THE AMERICAN SOLDIER.

Trigger Alert: If these kinds of images give you the vapors, then just move along.  For everyone else....

The artist, H. Charles McBarron, the "dean of American military artists" was commissioned to create the series depicting American fighting men at various periods in our country's history. No effort had been spared to ensure that uniforms, arms, and equipment were portrayed with accuracy. While known for his military illustrations, McBarron also produced such popular-culture icons as Captain Midnight, the Jolly Green Giant and Buster Brown.   McBarron was supposedly a frequent visitor to the village but this remains unconfirmed.

With respect to the military art below, your editor only got as far as 1965 and hopes to get the rest online one day. These scanned prints BELOW start with WWI--1918 and end with 1965. Click on the photos and enjoy the level of detail.
