A pair of pistols once owned by Alexander Hamilton, the Founding Father killed by a similar gun in his infamous duel with Aaron Burr, sold for $1.15 million, according to Rock Island Auction Company.

The bidding was brisk for the brace of 18th-century .50-caliber flintlock pistols, with a starting bid of $750,000 and a final hammer price of $1 million, to which a 15% buyer’s premium was added, said Joel Kolander of the auction house, which is based in Rock Island, Illinois.
