The sudden proliferation of assorted roadside signs throughout the village has prompted some readers to suggest that It might be a good idea--before local government enacts a sign law for private property---that it makes a greater effort to enforce the existing law about signage in public rights of way, etc. The attached is just one of five such signs this morning.
Several residents have also written to ask why the village isn't removing the escalating school election signs, advertisements to "buy houses", opportunities to go solar, and ads about upcoming Hudson Valley events, etc. The question of whether or not ticketing has occurred also came up along with why the village appears more concerned with regulating political speech on private property than some questionable house buying advertisements and more on the roadside.
Once again, all questions and comments about these issues should be directed to village officials. The website is https://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/ and you will find contact info there.
A public hearing---date still needs to be confirmed---on the new sign law is supposedly happening soon. When info is provided, it will be posted. Residents with an interest and concerns about these issues and restraint of speech on private property should make a point of participating in the public hearing at that time.
