AND NOW... SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: GLORIA SWANSON, PETER STRAUSS AND YALE JOEL

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

One of our most popular series here at the blog.....

SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: Today it's GLORIA SWANSON, PETER STRAUSS, and YALE JOEL........As always, click on the photos and links.

Long before Croton's Gloria Swanson achieved fame and fortune (see her Croton home here), she started out as one of Mack Sennett's Bathing Beauties!

Our friends at European Film Star Postcards unearthed a number of great postcards---including this one featuring Gloria Swanson---she's on the far left---sitting on the bed and lacing up her shoes.  READ ALL ABOUT MACK SENNETT'S BATHING BEAUTIES AT EFSP HERE.

Next up, a wonderful film with PETER STRAUSS, who as you may know, got his start with the CROTON SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL; read more about that here.

BUT BACK TO THE MOVIE---LOVE ON THE LAND---1997;  Wonderful cast, Strauss, Rachel Ward, Rip Torn, Hume Cronyn---we chose this one for our recent movie party and it was a bit hit......not a lot of dry eyes in the house!

---The Linthorne saga, set against the daily rituals and chores of life on the land, reveals the determination, strength and indomitable spirit of the families who settled America. READ MORE HERE.  YOU CAN FIND IT ON AMAZON HERE.

And finally, we've  become big fans of Photographer Yale Joel's work---one of Croton's most famous residents.  We're especially enamored with his fashion pieces....but his work truly spanned the gamut.  Check out KRISTINE'S Flickr photo album of currently 149 Yale Joel photos.  There are some truly outstanding examples.

  1. This is one of my favorite Rachel Ward films. It needs to be seen more often.
