On this date in 1971 "Alias Smith & Jones" premiered on ABC TV. It ran from from January 1971 to January 1973. The show initially starred Pete Duel as Hannibal Heyes and Ben Murphy as Jedediah "Kid" Curry, outlaw cousins who are trying to reform. The governor offers them a conditional amnesty, aiming to keep the pact a secret.
Duel, who suffered from depression, would die of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 31. Read more about the series here.

I loved that show, too, though I didn't think Duel's replacement "cut it." Duel was also in "Love on a Rooftop," a cute show that was the first television show ever that showed a husband and wife sleeping in the same bed. Quite the controversy! A delightful show.
