SAVE THE TREES PETITION, HUDSON NATIONAL SOLAR
THE FOLLOWING PETITION HAS BEEN PLACED ONLINE;
We believe that it is wrong that around 600 trees will be chopped down to build solar panels for the Hudson National Golf Course. We ask that the Village of Croton-on-Hudson put a stop to this project, because we kids deserve to grow up in a town with trees. Here’s why:
- There is lots of other space to build it on the property of Hudson National, such as parking lots, and lots of already cleared land.
- In 1999 the Croton Village Board gave Hudson National a permit to build the golf course, which said: “These are areas in which the natural progress of succession to a mixed hardwood forest shall be allowed to progress unaffected by golf course activities. Wildlife habitats shall develop and evolve unassisted and unimpeded.” Basically, they were supposed to leave the surrounding forest alone, and now they’re planning not to!
- This forest is rich with wildlife, including the endangered Indiana Bat, and this project would destroy important habitats.
- The solar fields are planned to be built on steep slopes, where chopping down trees could eventually lead to lots of erosion and mudslides.
Thanks.
