Welcome
to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history,
our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of
worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
One of our most popular series here at the blog.....
AND NOW... SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: SOPHIE DELAR, PETER STRAUSS and FAY BAINTER
Click on the photos and links.
FIRST UP, A 1935 BLURB from Film Daily about Croton notable Sophie Delar---opening her studio at Rockefeller Center and becoming the "official photographer of the Center".
Delar, who lived on Finney Farm Road, was best known for her New York City "Society Circuit" images. Stay tuned. There will be more. (Sometimes spelled with a capital "L").
Next up is Peter Strauss---who got his start in the Croton Shakespeare Festival--and Kathleen Quinlan in the 1996 TV drama, IN THE LAKE IN THE WOODS.
We recently watched this movie again---and the performances remain quite solid---it's based on the novel of the same name (read about it here), and you can see the film via Amazon here.
We recently watched the wonderful 1940 production of THORNTON WILDER'S "OUR TOWN"....what a great cast....which also included Croton's Fay Bainter.
Read about Bainter's Croton Connection here.
Read about the movie here.
AVAILABLE HERE.
And we stumbled upon this publicity still for Bette Davis and Walter Brennan---Brennan received his Oscar for "Kentucky"---and Bainter for her role in Jezebel. CLICK HERE TO SEE IT.

Sophie DeLar lived at the top of Finney Farm Rd. The school bus stop for the kids who lived on the road was down at the bottom where the road headed straight up the hill from Old Post Rd. It was a long haul up the hill after the school day was over. On days when the weather was bad, it seemed even longer. Unless of course Sophie Delar, driving her Rolls Royce happened to be headed home herself. In which case, you got offered a luxurious ride home.
