SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: MABEL DODGE (LUHAN), HOLBROOK BLINN, PETER STRAUSS, JACKIE GLEASON, and VERA NEUMANN

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: MABEL DODGE LUHAN, HOLBROOK BLINN, PETER STRAUSS, JACKIE GLEASON, and VERA NEUMANN--click on the photos and links.

FIRST UP, just finished MABEL...a biography of Croton's Mabel Dodge Luhan by Emily Hahn...1977...Dodge was a fascinating, albeit flawed, woman---there's no question however, about her patronage of the arts.  The book is available here and can occasionally be found on EBAY.

There are some very interesting passages about Dodge's time on Finney Farm, her involvement with Elizabeth Duncan, etal.

Next up, Holbrook Blinn in The Boss, 1915--a quick blurb from the Daily News.  The Boss was  a 1915 silent film produced by William A. Brady and released through his World Film Company. The film is based on a 1911 play by Edward Sheldon called The Boss. On stage it starred Holbrook Blinn and Emily Stevens. In this silent version Holbrook Blinn reprises his role from the Broadway play but Emily Stevens is replaced by Alice Brady, the daughter of producer William Brady

For those who don't know, Blinn (of Blinn Road fame) was quite a famous actor/director, both in the theatre world and the then-burgeoning silent film industry...now largely forgotten....Read more about him and his Croton connection here

Next up, Croton's Peter Strauss makes his Broadway debut in 1981's Einstein and the Polar Bear.

Read the Playbill WHO'S WHO IN THE CAST--alas it is not complete.....For more about the play's author, Tom Griffin, click here

As many of you know, Jackie Gleason lived in nearby Cortlandt (although some paper call it Peekskill).

He was a frequent visitor to Croton. Here's a great photo from The Honeymooners that was featured in a previous auction at SeriousToyz/

Check out a video clip we've unearthed-----"A FATHER'S DAY SPECIAL" courtesy of Croton's own Tom Faranda's Folly: RALPH CRAMDEN, KING OF THE CASTLE; to see it, click here.    Read more about Gleason's famous "round house" here.

As many of you know, Vera Neumann, artist, colorist, textile designer and more, lived in Croton (you can read more about that here).

One of the Everything Croton Elves found this fascinating blog post--Vera Neumann for Brighton--The Vintage Traveler--click on the photo---read and see much more here
