Thurman:
Robert J. “Bob” Shepler, Sr., 68, of Bowen Hill Road, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 1, 2020 at his home following a brief illness.
Born December 28, 1951 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late George and Agnes (McMahon) Shepler.
Following his graduation from Croton-On-Hudson High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Airforce, proudly serving his country as Military Police in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1972.
He began working for the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department in 1973 where he remained for many years, retiring as Sergeant in 1989.
He was very community minded, serving as a D.A.R.E. Officer, Little League coach and locally, volunteered with the Warrensburg Youth baseball, football, and basketball organizations as well as finding time to deliver food to our seniors with Meals on Wheels. Bob was also Past-President of the Thurman Youth Commission.
He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Bob also enjoyed traveling, canoeing, fishing, cooking, and entertaining his guests.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Susan H. Shepler of Thurman; his son, Robert J. “Rob” Shepler, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Thurman; three grandsons, Robert A. Shepler, Colby J. Shepler, and Austin G. Shepler of Thurman; sister, Joan Wackerly of FL, brothers, Gary Shepler of AZ, and George Shepler of Plattsburgh; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Bob’s family from 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Bob’s earthly remains will be interred in Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
