& NOW SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: LENORE ULRIC, GLORIA SWANSON, AND GEORGE BIDDLE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

One of our most popular series here at the blog.....click on the photos and links. AND NOW... SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: LENORE ULRIC, GLORIA SWANSON, AND GEORGE BIDDLE.

First up, a fabulous color ad for Croton's Lenore Ulric in"Tiger Rose" (1923).  You can read more about the film here.

Ulric was featured in a Croton Historical Society exhibit a few years back.

You can see select scenes from that exhibit and read more about Ulric's Croton connection here.

Next,  it's an ad for Croton's Gloria Swanson in BLUEBEARD'S 8TH WIFE (1923).

It's a lost American silent romantic comedy film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Based on the French play La huitième femme de Barbe-Bleue by Alfred Savoir ,  Paramount Pictures remade the story in 1938 directed by Ernst Lubitsch and starring Gary Cooper and Claudette Colbert.   Read more about Swanson's Croton Connection here.

And finally, we stumbled upon this 1963 audio oral history interview with one of Croton's most notable residents: George Biddle.

Biddle was an American painter, muralist and lithographer, best known for his social realism and combat art.  A childhood friend of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he played a major role in establishing the Federal Art Project (1935–43), which employed artists under the Works Progress Administration.   HEAR THE INTERVIEW AT https://www.aaa.si.edu/collections/interviews/oral-history-interview-george-biddle-12696
