& NOW SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: RALPH WALDO TRINE, LENORE ULRIC AND PETER STRAUSS

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

One of our most popular series here at the blog.....click on the photos and links. AND NOW... SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: RALPH WALDO TRINE, LENORE ULRIC, AND PETER STRAUSS.

FIRST UP, from 1913 and PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY---reports of his death were greatly exaggerated (smile)---a blurb about Ralph Waldo Trine---of Mt. Airy and NEW THOUGHT COLONY FAME--and mentioning his home here in Croton.

For those who don't know, Trine was an American philosopher, author, and teacher. He wrote many books on the New Thought movement. Trine was a close friend of Henry Ford and had several conversations with him about success in life. He moved to Mount Airy when he was 30 years old; at that time, he met his future wife Grace Hyde an author of poetry and plays. Living in the area for many years, while raising their only child, Robert, they became involved in metaphysical seminars that were held at Lake Oscawana. READ MORE ABOUT TRINE HERE.

The 1920's produced some fabulous fashions---among them Lucile Designs.

Here's Croton's Lenore Ulric modeling two examples---from Theatre Magazine 1920.

For those who don't know, Ulric was a side feature in a 2014 exhibit hosted by THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

You can view more from that exhibit and read about Ulric's Croton connection here.   And in case you missed it, Ulric's was married here in Croton as well; click on the link to read more: https://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2022/03/lenore-ulric-married-to-sydney-blackmer.html

And finally---worth a repeat viewing---and we did......

Peter Strauss---who got his start in the Croton Shakespeare Festival----IN THE 2000 FILM, "A FATHER'S CHOICE".

The fast-paced city life of two sisters is turned upside down when they are sent to live in the country with their father after their mother is killed.

Predictable yes, but a great family story and the kind one seldom sees these days.....more's the pity....

It stars Peter Strauss, Mary McDonnell, Michelle Trachtenberg - available on Amazon - more at https://www.amazon.com/Fathers-Choice-Peter-Strauss/dp/B07PWYDDJ6/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=a+father%27s+choice&qid=1598354390&sr=8-1

  1. I saw this movie a few months ago. They really need to make more like it, more often. What passes for entertainment these days is usually not entertaining at all and rarely uplifting.
