MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS AND PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES ALEXANDER CALDER, GLORIA SWANSON, AND PATRICIA BENOIT--CLICK ON THE PHOTOS AND LINKS.

JUST FINISHED THE ALEXANDER CALDER BOOK---AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY WITH PICTURES--and highly recommend it.  P.S. The Croton Historical Society facebook page recently posted this info--see below:

Croton Historical Society--According to the Calder Foundation website, the Calder family moved to Croton in the winter of 1909 and Alexander Calder attended public school here. They probably rented the home from the Stevensons. Here’s a photo of Calder and his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Calder in 1910 in the doorway of the Croton house. At the time the house was one story. The Stevensons added the second story in 1917. SEE THE PHOTO AT https://calder.org/historical.../calder-and-his-sister-1910/

As many of you know, Gloria Swanson, was one of Croton's most notable residents; read more about that here.

Swanson got her start in MACK SENNET'S COMEDIES.  Here's a very young Swanson discovered by our friends at European Film Star Postcards.  Check out their post on Sennett's Keystone Film Company at  https://filmstarpostcards.blogspot.com/2021/03/before-hollywood-keystone.html

The late PATRICIA BENOIT, of MISTER PEEPERS television fame, was one of the village's most notable residents for many years(1961 THROUGH 1981). To read more about that, CLICK HERE.

One of the elves just discovered that ...
In 2005, the first 26 episodes of Mister Peepers, which had been preserved by the UCLA Film and Television Archive, were released on DVD by Smore Entertainment. In November 2008, the second boxed set of Mister Peepers was released by Smore Entertainment. READ MORE ABOUT THAT HERE.
