A WORD FROM CROTON COUNCIL ON THE ARTS ABOUT TONIGHT'S MEETING & THE BOARD'S CONTINUED PLANS FOR THE GOUVEIA PROPERTY/"PARK"

Tonight - Village Bd Work Session on new Draft Resolution to Create Humanities & Arts Advisory Council

At this point, most of you know that the Village intends to use at least some of the Gouveia Property to house the recreation department. Because that decision seems counter to the original intent of the gift and the accompanying funding, CCoA and others in the arts community pushed for our voices to be heard. The Village has responded with the accompanying DRAFT resolution to be discussed at the Monday, May 13 board work session in which proposes the formation of a Humanities and Arts Advisory Council. We were not asked as to how we thought such an organization should be constituted nor what its role might specifically be, but those issues are likely to be a substantial part of the board’s discussion. I would encourage as many CCoA members and others interested in a strong voice for the arts, attend this meeting. I am looking forward to seeing you there.

Valerie Leis President, CCoA

[Note: The Croton-on-Hudson Village Board of Trustees work session is scheduled for TODAY, Monday, May 13, to begin at 7:30 pm at the Municipal Building, 2d Floor.  However, the first hour is scheduled to be a closed-door executive session.  The Humanities and Arts Advisory Council (HAAC) draft resolution is the third and last listed item on the agenda, and is currently scheduled to be discussed from 8:50 to 9:10 pm.  At an open working session, such as the one for this resolution, the public does not have the right to speak but the Board may invite individuals to do so.]

  1. massive costly renovations are still necessary either way. the lot is a disaster and an accident waiting to happen. no one goes there for a very good reason. hey maybe we can turn the municipal building into affordable housing or better yet how about making the gouveia building affordable housing.

  2. From bed and breakfast to wedding venue to house rental to office space, what a joke. You voted for these people.
