FOR THOSE WONDERING ABOUT THE NEARLY TWO HOUR EVENTS AT THE VAN WYCK APARTMENT BUILDING, RESIDENTS WERE FORTUNATE THAT IT WAS NOT FREEZING...for everyone ended up outside due to a smoke condition in the building.
FROM THE CROTON FD FB PAGE: At 11:00 PM last night, a Full Department Response was dispatched to the Van Wyck Apartments on Grand Street for smoke in the building. Units arrived and immediately determined a malfunction of an oil burner, with low levels of Carbon Monoxide in the building along with fumes that required ventilation.
Members shut down the boiler, aided in evacuating residents, checked for CO levels, vented the fumes and assisted one party who wasn’t feeling well.
Car 2081, Car 2082, Engine 118, Engine 119, Engine 120, Tower Ladder
44, Rescue 18, Utility 14 were on scene with over two dozen CFD
Volunteers operating for almost 90 minutes. Croton EMS, the
Ossining EMS Paramedic Unit and Croton Police were on scene, and a
dual-response from the Ossining FD was cancelled enroute.
