Wow, what a winter. Let's re-cap!
EAGLES!
Frankly, we just can't remember a better Eagle Season; it started early in November and really took off in January and February with the best spots being Georges Island and the Verplank waterfront--where they just floated on by. As you can see from the photo, we eagle photographers get a little nuts in our quest for that perfect shot! And let's not forget the eagles that took up residence in the trees adjacent to Ralph & Dave's throughout the month of February. (Updated R&D has closed.)
ICE SKATING @ THE DUCK POND
Despite a prolonged never ending stretch of bitter cold, the Duck Pond was sadly not prepared by the village for skaters as often as it should have been--and with less than timely notice to the public the few times it was. This was a problem last year as well.
Kudos however to the Washington Engine Co. (and Recreation Department/DPW) for their efforts--see your all volunteer fire department in sub zero temps at the pond here http://on.fb.me/1F43WVm

ROUTE 129, THE ICE WALL
Right up there with the Croton Dam, a natural wonder without fail.

Spring begins March 20th and for many of us,
not a moment too soon!
Verplank rocked for eagles. Hey I think I recognize someone out there :D
ReplyDeleteA shame about the Duck Pond. What's the back story behind the **no ice hockey** sign? Was the village sued or something?
ReplyDeleteNo idea. Anybody else?
DeleteHow can you not allow ice hockey? No this no that. Sheesh. Is it any wonder I long for earlier days.
