Residents in the Grand Street/GI Valley area--and other locations in the village--awoke to the sound one very loud, very low-flying helicopter--complete with uber-spotlight--scanning the streets below. (Click on the photo.) There are unconfirmed reports that the "NYPD" was searching for someone (there were also multiple black SUV's parked in front of the apartment building)--and that they "got him".

WAKE & FUNERAL SERVICES FOR HUGO IODICE
Courtesy of a family member: Hugo Iodice, Jr. of Cortlandt Manor, NY passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the age of 53.
Hugo was born on December 25, 1962, in the Bronx, NY. He is survived by his loving parents, Mary and Hugo, Sr.; his beloved wife, Martha (nee Taboada); his cherished sons, Max and Alex; his devoted sister, Mary Anne and brother-in-law Art and his adoring niece and goddaughter, Mary Anne; and his caring brother-in-laws Armando (pre-deceased by Maria) and Jose (Michelle). He also leaves behind many heartbroken aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and a wealth of friends and colleagues that he considered family.
Hugo was a neighborhood fixture with his mortgage business and his philanthropic involvement in many local communities both at home and in Croton-on-Hudson where his business endeavors were located. Everyone who knew and met him were immediately drawn in by his infectious smile and laughter. He was known to light up a room the moment he entered it and was as genuine a man as they come, always living his life with conviction and every day to its fullest. Everyone has a happy, funny, memorable "Hugo Story" to share and he left an indelible mark on every life he touched.
Services will be at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY 10548, Thursday, March 10th from 2-5 and 7-9 and Friday, March 11th from 2-5 and 7-9. HUGO IODICE HAS PASSED AWAY
Your editor received the very sad news this morning that Hugo Iodice passed away unexpectedly last night. As soon as funeral arrangements are made, they will be posted here.
I first met Hugo ten plus years ago in Croton's Upper Village over an Italian ice "imported" from The Bronx. His keen insights into Croton's political scene--and on the art of being "Italian" for lack of another way to put it--were often potmarked with outrageously funny commentary worthy of a television special. He was generous and kind, relished his role as a father to his two sons, and was in the end, just a very good person who will be missed. Sending my deepest condolences to Martha and his family.

ACTOR & MATINEE IDOL, FRANCIS X. BUSHMAN, THE CROTON CONNECTION, JULY 1918
Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things
Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in
short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
And now an excellent find from one of the Everything Croton Elves: FRANCIS X. BUSHMAN, THE CROTON CONNECTION.
For those who don't know, Francis Xavier Bushman (January 10, 1883 – August 23, 1966) was an American film actor. His career as a matinee idol started in 1911 in the silent film His Friend's Wife. He gained a very large female following and was one of the biggest stars of the 1910s and early 1920s. He also starred with Ramon Novarro in the silent film version of Ben Hur--which was featured in a recent post here at Everything Croton. (You can read all about that here bit.ly/1QBe8ra)
But getting back to that Croton Connection: Check out this 1918 article from the Bridgeport Times, which reports that Metro Pictures shot "Social Quicksands" on the "beautiful estate of Clifford B. Harmon". Click on the photos below, which also includes a postcard featuring Bushman in Ben-Hur as Messala. Read more about the plot of Social Quicksands here http://www.nytimes.com/movies/movie/110821/Social-Quicksands/overview
