  1. Working at the yards was not easy but back then you did what was expected to take care of your family. I was young too when I started there before shipping out in my case to Korea. Not to brag but a lot of today's young men seem more coddled. JBB

  3. For the record, the "GREASY SPOON" mentioned by Mr Jacob was called the Harmon Canteen,and was owned by my mom and dad, Vera and Arthur Newbery --- with one R.. I have photos of the inside and outside that I intend to donate to the Croton-On-Hudson historical society.
