Dear Croton-Harmon Community,
As many of you are aware, our Transportation Department—along with numerous neighboring districts—faces regular challenges with vehicles illegally passing stopped school buses while students are boarding and disembarking. This behavior creates serious safety concerns for our students.
In partnership with Westchester County and local law enforcement, we would like to inform you of the upcoming installation of stop-arm cameras on our District’s school buses. Beginning January 19, 2026, BusPatrol will start installing multiple cameras on each of our school buses. These cameras are designed to help deter unsafe driving behavior and enhance student safety by capturing violations when motorists fail to stop for a school bus displaying its stop sign and flashing red lights.
The installation of this technology is an important step in strengthening safety measures for our students and supporting our drivers and monitors in maintaining a secure transportation environment.
With this new system in place, detected violations will automatically result in citations for any vehicle that passes a school bus with an extended stop arm, on both public roadways and school campuses. Please be advised that once a violation is identified, the issuance of any citation and fine is handled by the corresponding municipality and is outside of the District’s control.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and commitment to student safety.
