CROTON RESIDENT PHYLLIS REILLY'S BOOK IS OUT--Instant Memories: Four Poses for a Quarter
Phyllis Reilly returned to writing after a ten-year absence in 2017 and
started the Croton Writers' Group, a gathering place where writers could
meet and share their writing. She is a late bloomer, and at 77, her
quirky style and subject matter got editors’ attention. Her work has
been published in a variety of literary magazines. Brooklyn born and
raised, her stories reflect her childhood in the 1950s and are the
backdrop for some surprisingly dark beautiful writing that is filled
with vivid Imagery and descriptions that are as poetic as they are
powerful. Her Irish wit is evident in her writing. Some of her stories
are flat-out funny, while others reflect the absurd universe that was
her child¬hood and are heart-wrenching and haunting. Her writing style
is uniquely her own. A strong voice with a touch of the poet, her
stories will stay with you long after you read them. There is an
unflinching honesty about her work, and Erin, the central character in
many of her stories, takes us on a unique journey into a world that is
unforgettable.Phyllis lives in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, along the Croton
River with her amazing husband, Vernon, and her devoted cat, Zoey. When
she is not writing, she works with her writing group, reads, and puts
fake flowers in her garden—the deer eat everything “It looks like a
diorama at the Museum of Natural History.” “With old eyes you can’t tell
the difference.” She loves spending time with her family and says, “In
spite of this insane world, Life is Good.”
