FROM THE CROTON HARMON SCHOOL DISTRICT ICYMI

A letter from Croton-Harmon High School’s principal Laura Dubak to parents.

Dear Croton-Harmon High School Families,

I am writing to inform you that an anti-Semitic drawing, including a swastika, was found on a piece of paper in the High School during the winter break.

This discovery is deeply concerning, and we reported the finding to the Croton Police Department immediately. When we returned from the break, we immediately conducted an investigation and were able to identify the student responsible. That student’s behavior is being addressed through our District’s Code of Conduct.

While we do not believe that there is widespread knowledge of this event among our students, we wanted to share it with you and ask that you discuss it with your children to ensure that they understand the harmful impact hate symbols and speech have on our entire school community.

We have been in contact with the Westchester Jewish Council to gather educational resources to support how we address this incident with our student body. We have arranged for a presentation entitled Exploring the Symbols and Language of Hate from the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center for our faculty on Wednesday, January 21st, and a presentation for all CHHS students on Wednesday, January 28th.

CHHS and the Croton community take pride in being a safe, inclusive environment, and this situation reminds us how important it is for us to come together to send a message that hate will not be tolerated in our community or schools.

Thank you
