A WORD FROM THE CROTON HARMON SCHOOL DISTRICT, THAT CYBERATTACK, MYSCHOOLBUCKS PORTAL, ONE MORE TIME IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Dear Croton-Harmon Parents,

The district has been made aware of issues related to the MySchoolBucks (MSB) portal, which is used to account for student meal purchases. During the network restoration process following the cyberattack on October 12, MSB re-synchronized student accounts, causing an inaccurate linking of student and parent accounts. We want to be clear that the inaccuracies currently shown in the MSB parent portal are directly related to restoration of our network systems and were not a result of a data breach or suspicious cyber activity.

To remedy the situation, MSB will be reimporting all student information from the District's onsite cafeteria accounting system (Nutrikids) which has maintained accurate balances since its restoration. MSB will perform this service tonight as part of its normal systems maintenance schedule. In the meantime, student information on MSB will appear incorrect (including both names and balances). However, as mentioned, Nutrikids, the primary system which populates MSB, is accurate.

As an added measure, we've disabled the ability to make contributions to accounts until the account information resynchronization is complete. We've also audited any contributions during this period to ensure they are properly reflected in the on-site Nutrikids system. Once the MSB process is completed, students will be freshly imported from the accurate on-site system. This will ensure the students are properly linked for subsequent synchronization of data and that all account balances are correct.

Unfortunately, once the process is complete, parents will need to re-link their children using their Student ID, as they did when first registering on the MSB platform. We apologize for this inconvenience but it is the only way to ensure the total integrity of the system. MSB was engaged to correct the issue from the moment it was identified and made attempts to remedy it without having to cause interruption. However, given the sensitivity of the information, the necessity of maintaining its integrity, and the importance of bringing the system back online quickly, we have instructed them to take this approach. Once the system has been restored by MSB, a follow-up communication will be provided with instructions and contact information should you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Denise Harrington-Cohen
Assistant Superintendent for Business
