With the news that access to the Croton Gorge Unique area had been closed, conditions were almost back to normal on the Croton River for the 2019 Labor Day Weekend. The somewhat reclusive great blue herons who had temporarily gone "inland" so to speak, returned to feed in more open waters, while local kayakers continued to remove garbage all day Saturday and Sunday. I personally watched two kayakers pulling separate kayaks filled with black bags of trash last week. I have never seen it this bad in all the years we have lived here. It's why we no longer swim locally but go to a pool instead.
