CROTON RIVER, END OF SEASON 2019 UPDATE (SWIMMING)

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

CROTON RIVER--END OF SEASON 2019 UPDATE...as always, many thanks to those residents who created an extensive video and photo record for 2019--and who continue to remove tons of garbage from this area.

That being said--with only one more possibly warm weather weekend, it looks like calmer days have indeed returned.  However, kayakers are still seen toting contractor-sized bags of trash almost daily.  There will probably be more of that in the weeks ahead.  Residents are once again encouraged to continue documenting these events with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for when this decades-long cycle continues in 2020.

The flashing "Closed" sign is now off, but remains in the Quaker Bridge area, at least as of 9/16.

You are encouraged to read the latest article about opening village resident and school district resident ONLY parks to non-village residents in the most recent edition of The Gazette. It would now appear that much of that is off the table at the moment.  As always, however, you should read the paper for yourself.

On 9/21: DOS BELOS PERFORM SONGS TO CELEBRATE THE CROTON RIVER AT THE GRANDSTAND--what they have to say: As summer comes to a close, and as there has been a lot of concern over the health of our beloved Croton River and it's surrounding shores, we wanted to get together to honor our local waterway by....well, playing some songs about rivers. We hope our families, friends, and neighbors can join us at our other favorite watering hole (that has booze) -- The Grandstand, on Saturday 9/21. I think we can all agree that our river is something pretty special. Please note that this is not a night for political debate -- but simply, a night to celebrate. (ooh, accidental rhyme). We've also invited some special guests along, each with a connection to our village -- so we're extra-super-excited to rock the house. Hope to see everyone! AS OF 9/17, NO ILLEGAL SEWER HOOK-UPS OR BREAKS HAVE BEEN REPORTED BY THE AUTHORITIES.

Additional links, photos, etc from past weeks can be found at https://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2019/09/croton-river-labor-day-weekend-2019.html

Unless something extraordinary happens....see you again at the start of the 2020 swimming season.

  2. Thanks for keeping us so well informed without the nonsense. It was much appreciated. I've started reading the local papers again thanks to your heads-up pieces.
