  1. There's a document from the Bike/Ped Cmte in the package with this phrase in it: " The current dummy light is inadequate to minimize pedestrian-auto conflicts because turning care will interfere with pedestrians who are following the green."
Further, " The dummy light would remain as the sole signal for automobile traffic; however it would need to be hooked up to pedestrian signals so that it would turn red in all three directions before “walk” signal is activated."
Given the age and mechanics of the dummy light, I'm not sure this is even possible.
Martha's Vineyard; an island whose year-round population is +-16,000, with a summer swell of approx. 100,000; HAS NO TRAFFIC SIGNALS. ANYWHERE. There are also an abundance of APPROPRIATELY SITUATED bike lanes throughout the island. Yet they manage; better than one may think, actually. We're a village of 8,000. Let's stop trying to reinvent the wheel. Flashing red all-around. Bollards in crosswalks. Done.

  2. Did you see that last board meeting? And are we having Summerfest this year without Schmidt? What about the Gouveia and that fifty thousand we were going to make a year? Now I have to kiss that dummy light good-bye potentially. Not all changes are good.
